PROJECT
TATANKA HOTSHOTS BASE SIDING REPLACEMENT
GENERAL INFORMATION
1.0 SCOPE OF WORK
Work for this project requires the Contractor to be responsible for supplying all labor, materials, equipment, utilities, miscellaneous items, freight and delivery to complete the removal of existing wood siding and replacement with Steel Siding on two buildings at the Tatanka Hotshots Base. Used herein, the term “siding” includes siding, soffits, fascia, and trim that form the exterior envelope of the building.
Door and window trim are included in the project, but not the doors or windows themselves. The underlying weather barrier will be removed and replaced, and new insulation will be added prior to installation of the steel siding. Work also includes minor painting of metal exterior doors.
Work also includes removal and replacement of exterior light fixtures and controls on the two buildings.
The Tatanka Hotshots Base is located at 12266 Tatanka Drive, Custer, Custer County, South Dakota, 57730.
The Tatanka Hotshots Base hosts two buildings which were both constructed in 2002: The Tatanka Hotshots Quarters is a 6,300 gross square foot (gsf) single level building. The Tatanka Hotshots Pumphouse building is a 332 gsf single level building. The Quarters building has the original cedar lap siding and the original cedar shingles on the gables. The pumphouse has the original cedar lap siding
2.0 BACKGROUND
The two buildings at the Tatanka Hotshots Base were constructed in 2002. Both have wood siding. The siding is expensive to maintain and is heavily damaged by holes from birds and gnawing rodents. The siding was last painted in 2016 and has not lasted well. The Forest intends to remove all the wood siding and replace it with more durable steel siding. For a complete project, trim, soffit and fascia will be replaced with steel materials as well.
Exterior mounted lights are original fixtures. They will be removed and replaced with LED light fixtures.
The weather barrier beneath the existing siding will be removed and replaced. New insulation will be added to enhance building energy efficiency.
The elevation at the site is approximately 5,600 feet above mean sea level. The site generally experiences moderate snowfalls beginning in November and ending in March or April. The average temperature is 70 ℉ in July and 25° F in February. Access to the project site is open year around. The building will be occupied by Government Personnel during the period of performance.
