About this file

This document is a Lithium Battery Safety Certification Program (LBSP) Safety Data Package Sample Information template for submitting comprehensive battery safety documentation to the US Navy. The template requires detailed information across seven key sections: 1) Battery component and pack design data, including electrical specifications, safety devices, cell configurations, and failure modes; 2) Lithium battery-powered system description, covering manufacturer details, battery installation, safety features, and charge mechanisms; 3) Concept of Operations (CONOPS) and logistics information for battery transportation, storage, and disposal; 4) Maintenance and casualty procedures specific to naval ship and submarine environments, including charging, firefighting, and watchstanding protocols; 5) Functional, environmental, and safety test data; 6) Safety testing program plan or completed test data; and 7) System Safety Program results, including preliminary hazard analysis and a draft Hazard Assessment Report for naval systems.

The document is designed to ensure comprehensive safety evaluation of lithium batteries for US Navy applications, requiring manufacturers to provide extensive technical, operational, and safety documentation. It emphasizes detailed reporting on battery cell and pack design, system-level safety features, operational environments, maintenance procedures, and rigorous testing data. The template is specifically tailored for lithium batteries intended for use on naval ships and submarines, with particular attention to potential safety risks, failure modes, firefighting procedures, and environmental performance characteristics.
