About this file

This document outlines override procedures for a pharmacy benefits manager. It specifies that the pharmacy benefits manager can approve early fills and overrides for stolen, lost, or damaged medications, vacations, school outside the network area, long term care, natural disasters, dose changes, or mail order delays. For narcotics requests, brand switches, amounts over three months, or situations deemed necessary, the pharmacy benefits manager must contact the Veterans Health Administration Integrated Veteran Care team for approval. It also lists specific requirements for prior approval of nutritional liquids, certain pain medications, Botox, fertility medications, and sildenafil or tadalafil when prescribed for women. The related federal contract opportunity is for a pharmacy benefits manager to provide services under solicitation number 36C79123R0007 for the Department of Veterans Affairs Veterans Health Administration Veterans Integrated Service Network 19.

Override Procedures

When a beneficiary is requesting an early fill, the pharmacy contacts the Pharmacy Benefits Manager
