About this file

This is a technical exhibit detailing floral standards and policies for Santa Fe National Cemetery and Fort Bayard National Cemetery.

The floral policy permits fresh-cut flowers year-round and artificial flowers during winter months, with all flowers required to be placed in plastic vases provided by the cemetery. Visitors are limited to two vases per gravesite, with arrangements not to exceed headstone height. Potted plants are permitted only during the 10-day periods before and after Easter. During the holiday season (December 1 through January 20), wreaths and gravesite floral blankets not exceeding 2 feet by 3 feet may be placed on gravesites, with artificial Christmas trees limited to 12 inches in height. No items may be attached or glued to headstones, markers, or niche covers; all unauthorized tributes will be removed by cemetery personnel. Cemetery trees, shrubs, and plants cannot be decorated with ornaments at any time. Items left on gravesites are at the visitor's risk, with no liability assumed by the National Cemetery Association for theft, vandalism, or natural deterioration. Removal of items from gravesites not one's own is subject to prosecution.

Monthly flower pickup occurs on posted dates (with no pickup in February), during which all items except U.S. flags are removed from gravesites. Visitors may recover placed items prior to scheduled pickup dates. The 2026 pickup schedule specifies dates for January (27-29), March (3-5), April (1-2), May (5-7), June (2-4), July (1-2), August (4-6), September (1-3), October (1), November (3-5), and December (1-3).
