About this file

This is a Roof Diagnostic Survey report prepared for United States Air Force Shaw Air Force Base, specifically for Building 1130 located at 420 Chapin Street, Shaw AFB, South Carolina 29152. The survey was conducted by Tremco Incorporated and Weatherproofing Technologies, Inc. (WTI) on December 23, 2024, under project number 9851183, with diagnostic technician M. Sporcic. The report documents a comprehensive infrared thermography and moisture analysis of the building's roof system to identify wet insulation and potential structural concerns.

The survey identifies wet insulation across eight distinct roof sections, totaling 5,175 square feet of wet area out of 34,392 square feet surveyed (15.09% wet). Roof section 2 shows the highest moisture concentration at 100.00% wet (153 square feet), while sections 4 and 5 have minimal to no wet insulation. The inspection methodology employed mid-wave infrared cameras with spectral range 2.5-5.6, moisture meter readings, and core cuts to verify findings. Thermograms, photographs, and construction data for each roof section document insulation types (primarily polyisocyanurate and EPS foam insulation), roof deck construction (concrete decks with various protective layers), and specific moisture percentage measurements. The report includes detailed drawings with wet insulation areas marked in red, dry core locations, moisture grid measurements, and dimensional analysis of affected areas for remediation planning purposes.

CHANGE AT ANY TIME, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE AMOUNT OF WET INSULATION IN THE

ROOFING SYSTEM, AND CAUSE THE INFORMATION PROVIDED IN THIS DRAWING TO CHANGE OR

BECOME OUT OF DATE.

TREMCO'S INFRARED INSPECTIONS ARE PERFORMED BY CERTIFIED (EXPERIENCED) INFRARED

THERMOGRAPHERS UTILIZING STATE-OF-THE-ART EQUIPMENT. ALL WORK CONFORMS WITH CURRENT INDUSTRY BEST PRACTICES, AND IS PERFORMED IN ACCORDANCE WITH STANDARDS PUBLISHED BY ASTM

INTERNATIONAL AND INFRASPECTION INSTITUTE.

How An Infrared Survey Works:

Wet roof insulation absorbs more solar energy from the sun during the day than dry insulation. As the sun sets, the nighttime cools the roof surface. Wet insulation retains more solar energy than dry insulation. These temperature differences are detected by the infrared camera. All full service scans are performed using a mid-wave IR camera with a 2.5 - 5.6 spectral range.

Suspected wet insulation is verified through core cuts and/or a Roof Moisture Meter. Core cuts are taken to establish acceptable levels of moisture. Confirmed wet areas are marked out on the roof surface with paint.

How A Moisture Meter Works:

During the daytime, readings are taken and recorded in random locations and at wet areas found by the infrared camera.

Fast neutrons are emitted from the source in the Roof Moisture Meter into the roof system. The presence of hydrogen in the roof system slows the neutrons. These slowed neutrons as well as the fast neutrons are detected by the Roof Moisture Meter. A reading is displayed in the digital readout and gets recorded.

Core cuts are taken to determine a baseline for dry roof materials. Wet areas of insulation are marked on the roof surface with paint.

THIS IS A WTI BRANDED REPORT. THE TEMPLATE AND OR

REPORT CAN NOT BE REPRODUCED IN ANY MANNER.
