NOTE: Before presenting this lesson, instructors must thoroughly prepare by studying this lesson and identified reference material.
• Be present in the classroom 1 hour prior to class start and 1 hour after class is finished.
• Offer additional time to the students as needed.
• Encourage student questions.
• Focus on getting the students involved in the training.
• Tailor the instruction to the experience level of your audience.

• Pair experienced students with less experienced students during the conduct of PEs.
• Offer assistance that directs the students on where to find the required information for themselves (TMs, SGs, HOs, COTS manuals, etc.), as opposed to simply providing information to them without their having to look it up.
• Emphasize the importance of proper performance, and insist that all safety cautions and warnings are understood and followed.

Motivator This lesson will provide you with the knowledge and skills necessary to define IBCS Operator/Maintainer Course administrative information and IBCS components and functions.
Terminal Learning Objective

At the completion of this lesson, you [the student] will:

Conditions: Given the IBCS Operator/Maintainer Course Student Guide.
Standards: Describe course structure and administrative information; IBCS components, functions, and configurations; and Geodetic Registration Theory of Operation.
Safety Requirements
Incidental to Army operations and activities, all operations must provide for public safety, safe and healthful workplaces, procedures, and equipment. Observe all safety precautions when using lifting devices and handling heavy parts. Observe all safety and/or environmental precautions regarding electricity, radiation, radio frequency (RF), fuel, lubricants, high pressures, and refrigerants. Provide ventilation for exhaust fumes during equipment operation and use hearing protection when required IAW AR 385-10 (The Army Safety Program), DA PAM 40-501 (Hearing Conservation Program), The Clean Air Act (CAA), CAA amendments, National Ambient Air-Quality Standards (NAAQS), and the OSHA Hazard Communication.
Observe proper classroom and work area conduct at all times.

All operations must conform to the Army Environmental Program, TC 3-34.489 (The Soldier and the Environment); local, state, and federal environmental policies; the Clean Air Act (CAA); CAA amendments; National Ambient Air-Quality Standards (NAAQS); and OSHA Hazard Communication Standard for Industry, 29 CFR, part 1910.1200.
