About this file
This document is a data table presenting Department of Defense (DoD) statistics on change order definitization timelines for construction contracts.
The table tracks 234 change order proposals that were definitized during contract performance, categorized by the time elapsed between receipt of an adequate change order definitization proposal and final definitization. The data shows that definitization timeframes vary significantly: 41 proposals were definitized within 30 days or less, 35 proposals between 31 to 60 days, 24 proposals between 61 to 90 days, 48 proposals between 91 to 180 days, 47 proposals between 181 to 365 days, and 39 proposals exceeding 365 days. Additionally, 146 change order proposals were not definitized until after completion of contract performance, when all undefinitized equitable adjustments accumulated during performance were addressed through a single contract modification. This data illustrates the range of definitization practices within DoD construction contracts, with a substantial portion of adjustments remaining undefinitized until final contract closeout.
