1.0 Description of Services
1.1 Objective(s): This Performance Work Statement (PWS) describes the services required to overhaul UH-1N dynamic components. These services include functional testing, inspection and overhaul actions required to ensure the below items are in serviceable condition.
National Stock Number (NSN) Part Number (PN) Noun
1615-01-018-3484 204-011-400-19 Swashplate and Support Assembly
1615-00-204-6973 204-011-401-19 Scissors and Sleeve Assembly 1615-00-255-2896 204-040-366-15 Main Rotor Mast Assembly 1615-00-254-2174 212-010-701-3 Tail Rotor Hub Assembly
The Contractor shall fault isolate, overhaul and test unserviceable assets in IAW the applicable technical guidance for each asset. The Contractor shall track and resolve items affected by Product Quality Deficiency Reports (PQDRs), perform depot-level overhaul, functional testing, inspection, and packaging. Overhauls shall be completed within the specified delivery schedule.
All assets shall be overhauled and returned to the Government in serviceable condition. The Contractor shall provide timely and accurate reporting on overhauls in Commercial Asset Visibility Air Force (CAVAF). The Contractor shall provide data on the actions conducted for each unit.
1.2 Benefit to United States Air Force (USAF): This acquisition will benefit the United States Air Force (USAF) by having overhauled assets readily available to support the UH-1N helicopters and the mission.
1.3 Background: The dynamic components listed above are used on the USAF UH-1N helicopter. There are no other USAF applications. These components are commercial items and not a military unique application. The Original Equipment Manufacturer is Bell Helicopter. The listed components are flight Critical Safety Items (CSI). The UH-1N is unique to the USAF but variants of the H-1 are used by other services, commercial entities and foreign military customers. This service will only support the USAF UH-1N fleet.
The Swashplate and Support Assembly, NSN: 1615-01-018-3484 is a Critical Safety Item assembly that requires overhaul as detailed in the Air Force technical orders. The assembly has special characteristics, which if not conforming to the design of the part could cause failure and ultimately loss of control of the aircraft and result in severe injury or loss of life. The swashplate and support assembly is a device for connecting the rotating, mast-mounted, main rotor control linkage to the nonrotating, fuselage-mounted, cyclic and elevator control systems. The swashplate consists of an outer ring rotating on a ball thrust bearing on a nonrotating inner ring, which is mounted to the support through a gimbal ring to allow tilting any direction. The support also has provisions for mounting the collective lever and sleeve.
PR: FD2060-26-00025 PWS REVISION: 0 3
The Scissors and Sleeve Assembly, NSN: 1615-00-204-6973 is a flight Critical Safety Item.
The assembly has special characteristics, which if not conforming to the design of the part could cause failure and ultimately loss of control of the aircraft and result in severe injury or loss of life. It consists of two scissor levers and a rotating hub splined to the mast and mounted through ball thrust bearings on the upper end of the non-rotating collective sleeve. The collective sleeve is operated between the swash- plate support and mast and is actuated by collective levers attached to the lower end. The outboard ends of the scissors are connected to the swashplate outer ring by two drive links. The inboard ends of the scissors are indirectly connected to the pitch horns by two control tubes which transmit collective and cyclic control motions to the mixing levers in the stabilizer bar.
The Main Rotor Mast Assembly, NSN: 1615-00-255-2896 is a Bell Helicopter-designated Flight Safety Part and a Safety Critical Screw Threaded Component (SCSTC). SCSTCs are threaded components which, if they suffer a thread or material related failure in isolation, may result in the loss of aircraft, loss of life, or severe injury. The critical performance requirements of the mast assembly are the condition and integrity of the threads, proper fastener installation and torquing of nuts, and correct bearing installation. The Main Rotor Mast Assembly provides a means of mounting the main rotor and connecting it to the transmission. The mast is a tubular steel shaft fitted with two bearings which support it vertically in the transmission. Mast driving splines engage with the transmission upper stage planetary gear, providing counterclockwise rotation as viewed from above. Splines on the upper portion of the mast provide mounting for the main rotor and control assemblies.
The Tail Rotor Hub Assembly, NSN: 1615-00-254-2174 is a Critical Safety Item assembly that requires overhaul as detailed in the Air Force technical orders. The assembly has special characteristics, which if not conforming to the design of the part could cause failure and ultimately loss of control of the aircraft and result in severe injury or loss of life. The tail rotor hub-assembly employs a pre-coned, flex beam type yoke, Teflon lined pitch change bearings for blade installation and a two-piece delta hinged trunnion.
The UH-1N helicopter functions primarily as a light-lift utility platform. It performs missions including airlift of emergency, security, and disaster response forces, emergency evacuation of Government officials, support for school training and testing, airlift for distinguished visitors and transport/security for Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) support personnel. Other roles include airborne cable inspections, security surveillance of off-base nuclear weapons convoys, response to search and rescue operations, and medical evacuation and transport. The UH-1N can easily change mission packages to support this diverse set of functions. The capability of flight during inclement weather or nighttime conditions allows it to operate in most situations.
