PIPE SIZE ROD SIZE STEEL DUCTILE IRON COPPER PLASTIC

MAX. SPAN FOR PIPE SUPPORTS (FT)

TABLE A: PIPE SUPPORT DESIGN CRITERIA

1. FOR PIPE SIZES THAT ARE NOT LISTED IN ABOVE TABLE, THE NEXT

LARGER PIPE SIZE SHALL BE USED FOR DETERMINING LOADING AND

SUPPORT SPACING.

2. ROD SIZE IS BASED ON CARRYING SINGLE PIPE. WHEN MORE THAN

ONE PIPE IS TO BE SUPPORTED, RODS SHALL BE SIZED USING SUM

OF DESIGN WEIGHTS TO DETERMINE TOTAL LOAD.

3. PLASTIC PIPE SUPPORT SPACING BASED ON SCH 80 PIPE AT 100 DEG

F. SCH 40 PIPE OR HIGHER TEMPERATURES REQUIRE SHORTER

SPANS. SEE MANUFACTURER'S RECOMMENDATIONS.

4. INSTALL AT LEAST ONE HANGER PER PIPE LENGTH. LOCATE AS

NEAR THE END CONNECTION AS POSSIBLE.

5. PROVIDE TURNBUCKLE WITH SUPPORT ROD FOR PIPES SUBJECT TO

HORIZONTAL MOVEMENT.

6. PROVIDE LATERAL AND SEISMIC BRACING AS SPECIFIED &

REQUIRED.

7. DESIGN WEIGHTS ARE BASED ON SCH 80 STEEL PIPE AT 10 FT

SUPPORT SPACING.

8. ALL CONNECTIONS TO CONCRETE SHALL BE CONCRETE ANCHORS

PER SPECIFICATIONS & STRUCTURAL DETAILS.

9. MSS REFERS TO MANUFACTURERS STANDARDIZATION SOCIETY OF

THE VALVE AND FITTING INDUSTRY, STANDARD PRACTICE SP 58 AND

SP 69.

10. IF SUPPORT IS SUBMERGED OR LOCATED BELOW THE TOP OF THE

WALL WITHIN A WATER BEARING STRUCTURE, ALL HARDWARE AND

SUPPORT MATERIAL SHALL BE STAINLESS STEEL. IN ALL OTHER

AREAS, MATERIALS SHALL BE HOT-DIP GALVANIZED UNLESS NOTED

OTHERWISE.

11. CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE ALL NECESSARY EQUIPMENT,

MATERIALS, AND LABOR FOR CONSTRUCTING PIPE SUPPORT

SYSTEMS.

12. PIPE SUPPORT SYSTEMS AS DETAILED PROVIDE GENERAL

GUIDELINES FOR HOW PIPES SHALL BE SUPPORTED. ADDITIONAL

SUPPORT CONFIGURATIONS MAY BE REQUIRED. CONTRACTOR

SHALL SUBMIT ALTERNATE SUPPORT DETAILS FOR APPROVAL.

13. CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE SUPPORTS AS NEEDED TO SECURE

PIPING SYSTEM IN NORMAL AND TEST OPERATING CONDITIONS.

14. CONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR DESIGN OF PIPE SUPPORTS,

HANGERS AND SEISMIC BRACING. SEE SPECIFICATIONS FOR

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.

Section 2: Record of Questions Received and Responses Provided

Purpose

Open communication to all potential bidders on questions received.

Instructions

Provided for information.

Bidder Questions and Responses

The following list represents questions from prospective bidders and the Engineer’s responses. Questions from prospective bidders are shown in black and responses from the engineer are shown in blue.

Q9: Under Part 2 – Products Manufactured Units it says “Valves shall feature an anti-cavitation basket”. Can you provide the below hydraulic information so I can run a Cavitation Analysis, confirm the selection, and check valve capacity?

A9: Inlet Pressure: 220 psi

Outlet Pressure: 50 psi

Max Flow: 1,400 gpm

Min Flow: 200 gpm

Q10: Under Part 2, Components it says the “Valves in off-powered state shall be such that when power is lost the control valve will close”, but then the model number under Manufacturers is a “Cla-Val 131-01 Electronic Control Valve”. A 131-01 fails in last position. A 131-22 would be the model number for a power fail closed electronic control valve. Can you confirm the desired valve action on a power loss?

A10: Please select the control valve to close when power is lost, thus the Cla-Val 131- 22 is appropriate.

Q11: Finally, we discussed the pilot tubing and fittings material. The components section says “The pilot control system shall utilize copper control tubing and brass fittings” but I recommend stainless steel tubing and fittings. Per our conversation stainless steel tubing and fittings is acceptable.

A11: Stainless steel grade 304 or 316 tubing and fittings are acceptable.

Q12: The flanges on the Rate of Flow and Pressure Reducing valve (note 8) call for 300# flanges on the Ashland Booster pump station. None of the other material in that run has a note about 250/300# flanges. Will other fittings/appurtenances need to have 250/300# flanges in that or other runs in this BPS?

A12: Yes. Refer to Section 1.81.40 Pressure Ratings of the Technical Specifications for pressure requirements at each location. All components including flanges must be selected for the pressures stated in that section for the associated location where they are to be installed.

Q13: There are a few butterfly valves that are in the discharge side of the Ashland BPS.

These are noted as testing to 350 psi on the Discharge piping. The shell of the butterfly valve is tested to double the listed PSI or 500 psi but if you want a seat test it will generally be 250 PSI. Will a high performance butterfly valve be required instead of an AWWA C504 butterfly valve?

A13: At the Ashland BPS, normal pressure is 220 psi and working pressure is 250 psi, therefore AWWA C504 valves are sufficient.

Q14: Concerning the block wall around the generator, spec says to match existing.

Existing is a real stone veneer that adds to the walls cost significantly. Is this what you are looking for?

A14: Yes

Q15: Is an AWS certified shop required for steel gate fabrication?

A15: For the gate, welding fabrication is covered under the first section of Part 3 in Division 5 (page 5-3).

Q16: Theres a new pressure switch for the Talent location and the drawings say to refer to the specs. There is no spec section for the pressure switch. Is there a preferred manufacture and switch options?

A16: No pressure switch is needed. Keynote 38 on drawing M03 should reference detail 5/M07. Detail 7/M07 will not be used. Please see section 1 of this amendment 2.

Q17: In the bid walk it was mentioned that the location of the generator for the Ashland BPS might be changing. Will this change be communicated in an amendment?

A17: Bid the generator as shown in the drawings and as specified. Also note the additional language in Amendment 1 regarding a schedule of values for Bid Schedule item 16.
