1. As I mentioned before, there seems to be some missing information. Maybe it’s the construction notes (referred to in several places) that are missing because there’s no way one can back-check the bid item quantities. What’s the extent of the new paving and overlay? What size culverts go where?

All of these are in the construction notes.

Sheet 9 of 9:

2. Ref: Clearing Limits Notes

a. What note takes precedence between #1 and #3? #1 says remove and dispose all vegetative matter less than 10” DBH and #3 says all conifers, hardwoods, and brush within 4’ of the shoulder of the road or bottom of the ditch shall be removed.

b. Is the intent to remove all vegetation within 4’ of the shoulder or bottom of the ditch along the entire campground road or just where we’re placing the new ditch? I ask this because I know that we’ll have to remove trees/vegetation to reconstruct the drainage ditch, but during my site visit I didn’t really look at the vegetation along the road except where the pipeline/ditch is going in.

The 10” DBH applies to all areas that are not the reconstructed ditch area. All vegetation in the reconstructed ditch should be removed regardless of DBH, however I don’t believe there are very many, if any trees that large, within the ditch reconstruction area.

3. What is the base and backfilling requirement for the culverts? Sheet 9 of 9 shows a culvert replacement detail but doesn’t show how deep or what material is required for the bedding material, backfill, or minimum cover.

As shown on Sheet 9 there is 12”min. cover depth and it is stated in the construction notes

4. If the AC is 3” thick and the base course is 6” thick, then there must be at least 3” of minimum cover on top of the culverts. What type material is required?

Material required is 3” minus.

5. What type of material is required for shoulder backing?

¾” Aggregate Base.

6. Disposal of waste materials. I noticed that in specification 02221, Trenching, Backfilling, and Compacting for Utilities it says in paragraph 1.03 that “the disposal site will be chosen by the COR after consultation with the Contractor. The site, or sites, will be located within 1000 feet of the trenching work.” Yet, bid item #303.03, is entitled “Ditch, Culvert Inlet and Outlet Reconstruction – including disposal of waste materials off NFS lands”.

Disposal will be off NFS lands.

7. What is the requirement to reconstruct culvert inlets and outlets? A typical drawing would certainly help.

Construction Notes should help to determine reconstruction of inlets and outlets. Outlets will be similar to the ditch detail and what is existing on the ground.

Sheet 8 of 9:

8. How deep is the waterline and the ditch supposed to be dug? Sheet 8 of 9 shows ditch and trench details but doesn’t indicate how deep the trench or ditches should be.

Sheet 7 of 9/Bid Item 15251-1:

Depth of ditch is 24” or as approved by COR. Waterline should be installed preferably 18” below bottom of ditch unless COR approves other.

9. There are 3 notes that refer to Detail X Sheet X. Where are these details? Details are need to show the connection between existing lines and the new conduit.

Should say Detail Sheet 8 of 9. See updated Sheet 7.

10. The legend refers to installing a new shutoff valve and valve box but it doesn’t show where.

See updated Sheet 7.

11. What specifically are the fittings and appurtenances referred to in Bid Item 15251-1?

See updated Sheet 7.
