STOCK CONTAINMENT
Tying livestock to trees creates longterm resource damage. The area directly around the tree base is slow to heal from trampling because the tree canopy reduces sunlight and moisture. To prevent resource damage:
1. When livestock handling facilities are not available – tie your animal to your truck or trailer.
2. In the backcountry please use:
HOBBLES
PICKET PIN
HIGHLINE
OR set up a temporary pole hitch rack tied (not nailed or wired)between trees. For hitch racks or highlines, protect tree bark by using car seatbelts buckled around the tree. Tighten periodically to take up slack in rope.
