21. When the depth of trench exceeds 5 FT, a trench box or shoring shall be required. If maximum trench depth exceeds 20 FT, a shoring design as per O.S.H.A. regulaons shall be used.
22. The contractor shall, at their own expense, adequately support all ulity poles in the area of the trench excavaon prior to excavaon.
23. The contractor shall be responsible for all fees associated with the barricading and/or closing and re-opening of any and all excavaons during “down-me” as required by the on-site inspectors (PADEP, Professional, Using Agency, etc…).

25. No addional compensaon will be made for exploratory work and/or test pits.
26. The contractor shall verify all exisng field condions (elevaons, locaon, etc…) before commencing work. The Professional shall be nofied immediately if a conflict exists.
27. The contractor shall sawcut to full depth, all exisng concrete and bituminous paved areas prior to excavaon and/or removal.
28. All items coming into contact with the water being treated must be ANSI/NSF Standard 60/61 for potable water use.
29. All new waterlines crossing exisng sewer mains must maintain a 18” vercal separaon or the sewer main shall be concrete encased, a minimum of 5 feet on both sides of the sewer main being crossed, when the water main is above the sewer line.
30. Properly grounded, tracer wire shall be installed (following manufacturers recommendaons) to allow for future locang of waterlines.
31. All new fire hydrants throughout this project, shall be Muller Centurion Type, with integral 5" Stortz connecon.
32. All service connecons to any buildings throughout this project shall be installed up to and including replacing the exisng curb stop with a new curb stop.
Water System Specific Notes:
1. Field Tesng:
• Contractor shall test completed secons in conformance with AWWA standard C600. Furnish equipment and supplies and make all necessary connecons for the tests. The test pressure shall not be less than 150 PSI. Loss of water pressure during the test shall not exceed 5 PSI in a 2 hour period. If pressure loss exceeds 5 PSI, then the volume of water to refill the line to obtain the starng pressure shall be measured (This is the allowable leakage). Allowable leakage cannot exceed the standard as outlined in AWWA C600.
2. Disinfecon and Dechlorinaon:
• Disinfecon contractor shall disinfect pipelines in secons not more than 2,000 FT long.
Disinfecon according to AWWA C651. Use of any of the three methods described in Secon 5.
At least two consecuve samples, obtained twenty-four hours apart, from each secon disinfected must be cerfied bacteriologically sasfactory by an independent 3rd party cerfied water tesng laboratory before pipe can be placed in service. These results shall be provided to FTIG’s Environmental Office for review/approval prior to pipes being placed in service as well.
Take samples at regular intervals, not exceeding 2,000feet, throughout the length of pipeline, flush the sterilized line immediately aer confirmaon of acceptable test results.
• Contractor shall ulize a dechlorinaon device to assure less than 1 PPM chlorine is being discharged from system aer tesng. The Arden Bazooka hydrant connecng dechlorinaon device or approved equal device or method is preferred.
3. Swab pipe and fings that will not be pressure tested or chlorinated with chlorine soluon during installaon and use extra precauon to prevent soil and debris from entering pipe. Incorporate untested pipe into the flushing roune when possible. When connecng new pipe to the exisng water system, use operang pressure to visually inspect for leaks. When feasible preform inspecon prior to backfilling. Comply with all standards and requirements of PADEP/AWWA.
4. Contractor shall install supplemental joint restraints in lieu of thrust block for all pipe deflecon for crossings, etc.
• Based on 150 PSI pressure and 20-foot pipe lengths the following number of upstream and downstream joints require restraints:
Bends 11 ¼ and 22 ½ degree – none required.
45 degree – 1 required.
90 degree – 2 required.
• Pipe step reducon (Step 1 (8x6) Step 2 (8x4) Step 3 (8x3)).
Step 1 – 1 required.
Step 2 – 2 required.
Step 3 – 3 required.
• Standard tee fing – requires minimum 1 on branch side direcon.
• All vercal offsets beyond allowable deflecon. All joints must be restrained between offsets and 1 joint immediately prior and aer.
5. The contractor must provide thrust restraints in accordance with detail provided. The contractor must furnish and install mechanical joint thrust restraint glands at all fings and mechanical joints.
6. Water main and fings locaons shown on the drawings for the new water mains and appurtenances may be changed due to field condions.
7. Fings and their locaons indicated on the drawings are tentave. The contractor must complete the installaon with the necessary fings dictated by field condions. No addional payment will be made for deviaons from the indicated fings.
Ulity Coordinaon Notes:
