About this file
This document is Addendum #6 to Invitation to Bid (ITB) #2024-011 for the City of Salem Courthouse - Jury Room Expansion project. The City of Salem, Virginia is requesting bids from qualified contractors for the renovation and expansion of the Jury Room in the City Courthouse. The addendum addresses several vendor questions, including the specifications for exterior lighting, data drops, fire alarm system, and roller shades. The fire alarm system is a Simplex system, and the City does not have a preference for the fire equipment company but requires it to be qualified. The only windows that will receive shades are in the jury room, and they will be manual, not motorized.
The project involves relocating existing light posts, providing new fire alarm devices in the jury room and conference room, and installing manual roller shades in the jury room. The bid due date is January 4, 2024, at 2:00 PM. The bidder must include the signed addendum in their bid submittal.

DATE AND TIME BID DUE: JANUARY 4, 2024 AT 2:00 P.M.
ADDENDUM # 6
This Addendum # 6, dated December 22, 2023, amends or supplements Invitation to Bid (ITB) # 2024-011 as indicated below:
I. Vendor Questions:
1. Elec Plans: Exterior light pole and light pole fixture specifications (model number and manufacturer) to match existing lights.
Response: There are no new light posts on this project. We are only relocating existing light posts as noted on sheet A1.01 and as noted on sheet E1.1, keynote 5.
2. Elec Plans: Data drops, if any, need to be identified for locations, number of ports at each drop and where all data terminates. Also, is owner or contractor responsible for terminations?
Response: For the purposes of bidding please assume no data drops in the jury room or other areas in the renovation work area.
3. T1.02, Fire Alarm Notes: Is this note relevant for this project? If so, proprietary fire alarm contractor is not indicated. Please provide company name and contact information.
Response: “Fire Alarm Panel Notes” (specific to fire alarm panel work) on sheet T1.02 are not applicable to this project. The only fire alarm work on this project is relocating fire alarm devices from exterior door in hallway removed to new hallway door 165B, and providing new fire alarm devices in jury room and conference room.
4. Elec Plans: Existing light pole encased in cement needs details on where to junction or how to access. A detailed drawing is needed.
Response: The only place the underground electrical line feeding the streetlamps will pass under concrete is near the existing utility hatch in the courtyard. Provide a straight conduit under the concrete as shown in the attachment. No junction boxes are necessary, as underground connections can be made with direct burial splice kits.
5. Let’s confirm through a RFI that the only roller shades in the project are in jury room C106 and that they are manual and not motorized, to clear up the confusion in the specifications on the plans sheet T2.02 Division 12 that state both manual and motorized. And that the fact the roller shades are not indicated anywhere on the plans that I can find. Could we please get clarification as to the windows receiving shades and if they are motorized or not.
Response: Only the windows in the jury room will receive shades. They will not be motorized.
6. What type of fire alarm system do they have?
Response: Simplex Fire Alarm System.
7. Do they have their own company that they want to use?
Response: The City does not have a preference but the company must be a qualified fire equipment company.
