About this file

This document is Addendum #2 for the Thomas and Brown New Facility project at New Mexico State University (NMSU) in Las Cruces, dated December 4, 2024. The addendum provides multiple revisions, additions, and clarifications to the original bidding documents, covering various aspects of the construction project. Key updates include salvaging specific items like an electrical transformer and antenna, coordinating communication terminations with NMSU's networking department, specifying conduit pathways for HVAC controls, and approving Texas Lighting Solutions for interior and exterior lighting fixtures. The document also includes modifications to structural steel framing requirements, aluminum column covers, entrances, windows, hardware, and glazing specifications.

The addendum details technical changes to architectural and engineering elements, such as specifying material thicknesses, finishes, and installation requirements for different building components. It provides precise instructions for contractors regarding equipment installation, electrical connections, and mechanical system specifications. The document includes updates to civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, and technology drawings, with specific modifications to site plans, floor plans, elevations, and system details. These changes appear designed to refine and clarify the original project specifications, ensuring more precise implementation of the building replacement project.

2.02 GLAZING COMPOUNDS

A. Polyurethane Sealant: ASTM C920, Type S, Grade NS, Class A; single component, chemical curing, non-staining, non-bleeding, Shore A Hardness Range 20 to 35; color as selected.

B. Silicone Sealant: ASTM C920, Type S, Grade NS, Class A; single component; chemical curing; capable of water immersion without loss of properties; non-bleeding, non-staining, cured Shore A hardness of 15 to 25;

color as selected.

C. Glazing Compound: Modified oil type, non-hardening, knife grade consistency, color as selected.

2.03 GLAZING ACCESSORIES

A. Setting Blocks: ASTM C864 Option I, Neoprene 80 to 90 Shore A durometer hardness, length of 0.1 inch for each square foot of glazing or minimum 4 inch x width of glazing rabbet space minus 1/16 inch x height to suit glazing method and pane weight and area.

B. Glazing Gaskets: ASTM C864, extruded silicone type, 75 to 85 Shore A durometer.

C. Structural Silicone Glazing Sealant: Single component, neutral curing, medium to high modulus, minimum ultimate tensile strength of 100 PSI when tested using the H section method.

D. Glazing Tape: Preformed butyl compound; 10 to 15 Shore A durometer hardness; Coiled on release paper;

size as required.

E. Glazing Clips: Manufacturer's standard type.

2.04 GLAZING FABRICATION

A. Sealed Insulating Glass: Comply with ASTM E 774, Grade CBA, fabricate spacer bar frame of tubular aluminum or galvanized steel with desicant fill; bond spacer bar to glass with twin primary seals; fill space outside frame to glass edge with elastomeric sealant compatible with materials with which the unit will contact.

PART 3. EXECUTION

3.01 EXAMINATION

A. Section 01 3100 - Coordination: Verification of existing conditions before starting work.

B. Verify that openings for glazing are correctly sized and within tolerance.

23.18 08 8000 - 5

C. Verify that surfaces of glazing channels or recesses are clean, free of obstructions that may impede moisture movement, weeps are clear, and ready to receive glazing.

3.02 PREPARATION

A. Clean contact surfaces with solvent and wipe dry.

B. Seal porous glazing channels or recesses with substrate compatible primer or sealer.

C. Prime surfaces scheduled to receive sealant.

D. Install sealant in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.

3.03 INSTALLATION - INTERIOR DRY METHOD (TAPE AND TAPE)

A. Cut glazing tape to length and set against permanent stops, projecting 1/16 inch above sight line.

B. Place setting blocks at 1/4 points with edge block no more than 6 inches from corners.

C. Rest glazing on setting blocks and push against tape for full contact at perimeter of pane or unit.

D. Place glazing tape on free perimeter of glazing in same manner described above.

E. Install removable stop without displacement of tape. Exert pressure on tape for full continuous contact.

F. Knife trim protruding tape.

3.04 INSTALLATION - INTERIOR WET/DRY METHOD (TAPE AND SEALANT)

A. Cut glazing tape to length and install against permanent stops, projecting 1/16 inch above sight line.

B. Place setting blocks at 1/4 points with edge block no more than 6 inches from corners.

C. Rest glazing on setting blocks and push against tape to ensure full contact at perimeter of pane or unit.

D. Install removable stops, spacer shims inserted between glazing and applied stops at 24 inch intervals, 1/4 inch below sight line.

E. Fill gaps between pane and applied stop with sealant to depth equal to bite on glazing, to uniform and level line.

F. Trim protruding tape edge.

3.05 INSTALLATION - GLAZING COMPOUND

A. Fill voids between glass and stops with glazing compound and tool material to a straight line.

3.06 INSTALLATION - GASKET GLAZING

A. Set glass against compression gasket in fixed stop; roll in wedge gasket beginning at two adjacent corners

23.18 08 8000 - 6 working to the center points avoiding stretching the gasket material; apply metal snap on members once gasket is installed.

3.07 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL

A. Section 01 4000 - Quality Control.

B. Inspection will monitor quality of glazing.

3.08 CLEANING

A. Section 01 7700 - Contract Closeout: Cleaning installed work.

B. Remove glazing materials from finish surfaces.

C. Remove labels after Work is complete.

D. Clean glass and adjacent surfaces.

3.09 PROTECTION OF FINISHED WORK

A. Section 01 7700 - Contract Closeout: Protecting installed work.

B. After installation, mark pane with an 'X' by using removable plastic tape or paste.
