H-915A LF/MF/HF Active Antenna

The H-915A is a compact active antenna designed for broad band coverage of the longwave, mediumwave, and shortwave radio bands (10 kHz - 60 MHz) The active E-probe antenna consists of impedance matching electronics and amplifier, with a maximum linear output of 17 dBm, and signal amplifier gain of 10 dB.

The H-915 has a high E field sensitivity for its compact size with the advantage of good BC and spurious inter-modulation rejection. The antenna is sealed for harsh environments.

The H-915 is omni directional allowing for various installation configurations at height or at ground level.

Introduction:

The H-915 Active Antenna covers the full RF spectrum form 10 kHz through 60 MHz. A proprietary low noise signal amplifier in the E-probe is powered through the coaxial cable feed line to a coupler/supply interface located remotely near the receiver/analyzer. Output impedance is 50 to 75 Ohms, and is designed to match most receivers. RF gain attenuation on the receiver end may be necessary in some applications.

H-915 AC Power Supply:

The 120 VAC /12 VDC external power supply plugs into the 2.5 mm jack located on the back panel.

Secure a ground connection to the coupler box antenna ground post located on the back panel.

Antenna Installation:

1. The antenna will operate in any angle, in just about any location, but installing it in the clear away from metal objects directly adjacent to the antenna will improve signal performance. If possible, experiment with various placements high in signal and low in noise before completing final installation and wiring.

2. The antenna is supplied with a bolt down mounting flange. Mounting hardware (four 1/2" dia. anchors) are installer supplied.

Cable Attachment:

1. The BNC antenna connector coupling is protected within the shroud housing and mist be installed in the following order to prevent twisting and stressing the coaxial feed line. Note: See page 3 & 4 for optional ground wire installation.

2. Pass the feed cable (user supplied, 50 to 75 Ohm) through the side port of the shroud section as shown in the illustration and connect it to the BNCF on the antenna probe.

3. Cover the BNC connection with the supplied sealant tape, forming a watertight seal around the two piece BNC cable connection.

4. Hold the shroud section stationary and thread the antenna probe onto the shroud section, allowing the cabling to freely turn within the shroud and out through the shroud side port.

5. Assemble the mounting base to the antenna/shroud.

6. The antenna may be secured in place at this time with anchor hardware, or following experimental placement using signal and noise readings.

7. Route the feed cable to your receiver using cable strain reliefs and water guards or sealant where necessary.

Receiver Connection:

1. Connect the antenna feed line to the coupler input (ANT).

2. Connect the coupler output (RCVR) with the supplied jumper to the antenna input of your receiver.

3. Connect the AC power supply to the coupler (2.5 mm jack). The coupler

LED will light and your system is now ready for use.

4. The 10 dB signal amplifier can be switched on or off as needed.

5. The normal position of the signal amplifier is 'ON' for high sensitivity performance. The amplifier is switched 'OFF' if very strong signals are present and the receiver overloading occurs.

Optional Antenna Ground Wire / Ground Plane:

The antenna may be configured with a ground wire to a grounding source to help reduce noise, or the antenna may be configured for ground plane wire radials configured outward from the mounting base.

For either configuration a wire connection (18 gage stranded wire) will have to be added at the same time as the coax is connected through the shroud.

1. Following assembly of the two BNC connectors, feed the ground wire through the side port of the shroud and secure bare end to the BNC connector. Secure with a mini-hose clamp (user supplied).

Follow the directions for shroud and cable assembly (steps 2, 3 & 4).

2. Run the attached wire to a ground source – or configure the antenna for ground radials. Radials are experimental and the lengths of which should match the frequency of operation.
