4.0 REQUIREMENTS
4.1 Provide all labor and materials required to provide an A-Frame capable of a SWL of 8000 lbs that accommodates a CTD winch with a 3000M, 0.322” EM cable in accordance with Ref. 2.12, 2.13 and 2.14.
4.2 Fabrication
a. Per Ref. 2.7, before commencement of fabrication, plans and other documentation giving the required particulars are to be submitted to ABS in triplicate. Vendor plans and other documentation are to be submitted in quadruplicate if the fabrication site is different from the installation site. An additional copy of all plans and documentation is to be available to the ABS Surveyor performing surveys after construction at the location where the handling system is operated. All plans, documentation, and manuals shall adhere to the rules specified in Ref. 2.7.
b. Structural materials are to be suitable for the intended service conditions. They are to be of good quality, free of injurious defects and are to exhibit satisfactory formability and weldability characteristics. Materials used in the construction of the A-Frame are to be certified by the mill and verified by ABS Surveyors. Material is to be clearly identified by the steel manufacturer with the specification, grade and heat number.
c. All material shall meet the requirements specified in Ref. 2.7 for handling systems with design service temperature of -10 C(14 F) and colder.
d. The fabricated A-Frame shall meet the following requirements:
All workmanship and materials shall be in accordance with Ref. 2.1 through 2.10.
All sharp corners and rough edges liable to cause injury to personnel or damage equipment shall be ground smooth.
All welding shall satisfy Ref. 2.3. Only low hydrogen 70XX electrodes shall be used.
All snipes shall be ½” by 45 degrees unless otherwise noted.
The A-Frame stops shall be templated to suit the sheer and deck camber at installation.
A-Frame shall be symmetrical about vertical center plane, with the exception of rungs and padeyes on crossbar.
In accordance with Ref. 2.12, structural tubing shall be ASTM A500 grade B steel. All other structure is ASTM A36 steel, or ABS grade A mild steel.
Bolts indicated as “high strength” are ASTM A325, galvanized. For “high strength” bolts, deviation from section 075 of the General Section have been granted.
Heel pin axes port and starboard are to be collinear. Eye bracket axes are to be collinear.
Structural tubing used to form the legs of the A-frame shall be bent cold without the aid of heat to an inside radius of 6’-3”.
e. When brand names and models are used in Ref. 2.11 through 2.13, they are used to illustrate the item desired. Other brand names may be substituted provided the item has the same features and is of equal or better quality.
***** CHECKPOINT *****
Inform the COTR of the completion of construction of the A-Frame for inspection to ensure that all fabrications are satisfactory in accordance with Ref. 2.12. At this point the A-Frame shall be ABS certified adhering to the requirements listed below in section 5.0.
5.0 TESTS/REPORTS/INSPECTIONS
5.1 Operational Tests
a. Conduct operational tests on the new starboard side A-Frame in accordance with Ref.
2.7 and 2.10.
b. In accordance with Ref. 2.7, a static load test of 200% (16,000 lbs) of the rated capacity is to be applied to the structural components of the A-Frame in the presence of the ABS Surveyor. In conducting these tests, wire rope that will be placed in service shall not to be used. No permanent distortion of fittings or structure is allowed for a successful test.
c. All loose gear shall be tested in accordance with Ref. 2.7.
5.2 Certification
a. ABS certification
Weld inspection is to be in accordance with Ref. 2.3. The welds are to be nondestructively inspected and methods of inspection are to be submitted together with the design plans. The ABS Surveyor is to be provided with records of NDT inspections. The ABS Surveyor may require additional inspections, at his discretion.
Per Ref. 2.7, certification of the A-Frame will require attendance of the ABS Surveyor at the plants of the supplier of component parts of the system to ensure proper quality control procedures are in effect. The number and frequency of these visits are to be to the discretion of the ABS Surveyor.
The new A-Frame shall meet all requirements listed above and shall receive a Certificate for Handling Systems for a 8,000 lb SWL in all modes of operation.
***** CHECKPOINT *****
Inform the COTR of the operational test schedule, document the tests and certify the results.
