About this file

This document is a National Park Service Base Production Specification for Wayside Exhibit Bases, detailing manufacturing and production requirements for outdoor signage and exhibit bases. The specification covers three primary wayside types: low-profile (inclined at 30 or 45 degrees), visitor information signs, and upright signs typically used at trailheads. Metal fabrication requirements are comprehensive, including precise cutting, shearing, punching, welding, mechanical preparation, and finishing of aluminum and steel components, with specifications for high-quality paint finishes and final assembly.

The document provides detailed guidelines for packaging and shipping, emphasizing environmentally friendly methods such as using recycled cardboard, biodegradable cushioning materials, and coordinated shipping of complete base assemblies. Contractors are required to maintain specific dies for extrusions, provide comprehensive packing slips, and include assembly, installation, and maintenance instructions with each shipment. The specification is part of a solicitation (140P4325Q0060) by the Department of the Interior National Park Service Northeast Region for fabricating joint wayside exhibits, with a focus on precise manufacturing standards and sustainable packaging practices.
