About this file

This document is a comprehensive Wayside Exhibit Plan for Colonial National Historical Park, prepared by the Harpers Ferry Center in January 2024. The proposal details 22 wayside exhibits to be installed at various locations throughout Jamestown Island, with each exhibit focusing on a specific historical, cultural, or environmental aspect of the site.

The exhibits are designed to be 12x12 or 42x24 inches, made of painted aluminum with in-ground or sled base mounts in NPS Dark Brown. Locations range from near the visitor center to specific sites like the waterfront, rowhouse, and industrial areas. Topics include Colonial-era industries, indigenous and enslaved peoples' experiences, local ecology, archaeological discoveries, historical events like Bacon's Rebellion, and the evolving landscape. Each exhibit includes detailed graphics, purpose statements, and precise geographical coordinates for installation. The plan aims to provide visitors with an immersive, educational experience about Jamestown's complex historical and environmental context.
