About this file
This is an attachment specifying analytical methods for environmental testing and analysis. The document establishes EPA-referenced methodologies and technologies required for measuring trace metals, mercury, and arsenic speciation across multiple sample matrices including fresh water, salt water, soil, sediment, and tissue.
For trace metals analysis, the contractor must employ Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP/MS) with ICP/OES as a backup for fresh water samples (EPA 1638 and EPA 200.7), ICP/MS for salt water (EPA 1640), and ICP/MS for soil/sediment and tissue samples (EPA 1638). Trace mercury analysis across all matrices requires Cold Vapor Atomic Fluorescence (CVAF) methodology per EPA 1631/1631E. Arsenic speciation for trivalent and pentavalent forms must utilize HG-CT-GC-AAS per EPA 1632, while methyl mercury in water samples requires Purge and Trap CVAF methodology per EPA 1630. Sample preparation procedures for digestion require submission of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for approval, preconcentration must follow EPA 1640 or equivalent standards, and media/supplies cleaning procedures must comply with EPA 1669. All methodologies referenced are established by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
