Accidental interruptions may, if so agreed correspondingly, extend the time of the completion of the test run. After the completion of the final test, the Contractor shall remove by bailing, sand pumping, or other methods any sand, stones, or other foreign material that may have been deposited in the well. Time stated for the duration of the pump test is an estimate only, and the Owner or their representative reserves the right to require the Contractor to shorten or extend such period of test, or to make additional tests.

After recovery from the step test is complete, a "constant-rate" test shall be conducted in accordance with State Rule R309-204-6(10)(b). The well discharge should be 1.5 times the design rate or at the maximum yield. The test shall be run continuously for at least 24 hours or until stabilized drawdown has continued for at least six hours. During pumping, water levels in the well should be measured to provide at least 10 observation drawdowns within each log cycle of time. A recommended scheduling measurement is as follows:

0 to 10 minutes: 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3.25, 4, 5, 6.5, 8, and 10 minutes.

10 to 100 minutes: 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 40, 50, 65, 80, and 100 minutes. 100 minutes to completion: 1 to 2-hour intervals.

Along with drawdowns readings, the following should also be recorded:

1. Record the time since starting test (in minutes)

2. Record the actual pumping rate

3. Record the pumping water level (in feet to the nearest tenth, as measured from the same datum used for the static water level), Immediately after termination of the constant-rate test, a recovery test shall be completed for a period of time until there are no changes in depth to water level measurements for at least six hours. Record the following at time intervals similar to those used during the constant-rate pump test:

1. Time since stopping pump test (in minutes)

2. Depth to water level (in feet to the nearest tenth, as measured from the same datum used for the pumping water level).

Water measurement recording forms and constant-rate test procedures can be provided by the Owner or their representative upon request.

2.13 GROUTING AND SEALING

After the carrier casing has been set, the well shall be grouted in compliance with the following paragraphs:

Grout for the annular space between the drilled hole and the well casing shall be mixed to the following proportions: 1 sack Portland Cement, an equal volume of dry sand, and 5 to 6 gallons of clean water.

Prior to placement of the grout, the Contractor shall secure the approval of the Owner or their representative for the method he proposes to use. The following method is suggested.

The grout shall be placed by the use of a conductor pipe or tremie 2 inches or larger in diameter. The grout shall be transported to the bottom of the 500 foot drilled hole through the tremie which shall extend to within 20 feet of the bottom of the space to be grouted. When the grout has reached to bottom of the tremie, the tremie shall be raised 20 feet and the placement operations shall resume. This process shall continue until the entire length has been grouted. It is further required that the grouting be done continuously and in such a manner as will insure the entire filling of space in one operation. No drilling operations or other work in the well will be permitted within 72 hours after the grouting of casings. If quick-setting cement is used, this period may be reduced to 24 hours.

As indicated in the Utah Division of Drinking Water R309-515-6(5)(b)(i), the following individuals are authorized to witness the well sealing procedure for a public drinking water well:

(I) An engineer or a geologist from the Division of Drinking Water (II) A district engineer of the Department of Environmental Quality (III) An authorized representative of the Division of Water Rights, or (IV) An individual having written authorization from the Executive Secretary

At least 48 hours before the anticipated well grouting the well driller shall arrange for an authorized witness listed above to witness the procedure.

2-14 PROTECTION OF WATER QUALITY

The Contractor shall take such precautions as are necessary or as may be required to permanently prevent contaminated water or water having undesirable physical or chemical characteristics from entering, through the opening made by the Contractor in drilling the well or the stratum from which the well is to draw its supply. He shall also take all necessary precautions during the construction period to prevent contaminated water, gasoline, etc., from entering the well either through the opening or by seepage through the ground surface.

In the event that the well becomes contaminated or that water having undesirable physical or chemical characteristics does enter the well due to the neglect of the Contractor, he shall, at his own expense, perform such work or supply such casing, seals, sterilizing agents or other material as may be necessary to eliminate the contamination or shut off the undesirable water.

2.15 DISINFECTION

After the well has been completely constructed, it shall be thoroughly cleaned of all foreign substances including tools, timbers, rope, debris of any kind, cement, oil, grease, joint dope and scum.

The casing pipe shall be thoroughly swabbed, using alkalis if necessary to remove oil, grease or joint dope. The well shall then be disinfected with a chlorine solution.

The chlorine solution used for disinfecting the well shall be at least 50 parts per million (PPM) free chlorine and shall be applied over the entire length of the casing and pump column. This solution shall be retained for a period of not less than 24 hours.

An alternative method for the disinfection of the well provides that a sufficient amount of chlorine be added so that a concentration of 300 PPM is obtained. This should be computed on a volume somewhat larger than that of the pipe. The solution should be retained in the well and pump column for at least three hours but should not exceed five to six hours to avoid possible damage by corrosion.

2-16 MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT

The finished well will be measured for payment from the original ground surface to the bottom of the drilled hole or at the depth of drilling directed by the Owner or their representative, whichever is the lesser depth.
