About this file
The provided document is a Welding Schedule that details the welding requirements for a 66 ft Fisheries Research Vessel being procured by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (MI DNR). The welding requirements are based on the ABS Rules for Building and Classing Steel Vessels under 90 Meters (295 Feet) in Length, and cover areas such as the hull, decks, bulkheads, frames, girders, and foundations. The document provides specific details on weld types, sizes, and spacing for various vessel components.
The related state and local contract opportunity is for the build-out of the new 66 ft Fisheries Research Vessel for the MI DNR. The procurement is open to qualified shipyards, with bids due by 3:00 p.m. Eastern on February 29, 2024. The MI DNR will evaluate all responsive and responsible bids based on qualifications, experience, price, and the proposed completion timeline, as they are willing to consider alternate timelines beyond the requested one-year timeframe. An addendum has been issued that extends the bid due date and provides clarification on the completion date requirements.

WELDING SCHEDULE

VESSEL NAME:
GENERAL NOTES
8) All welding not called out in this schedule or on structural plans shall be double continuous with a fillet size 75% of the thinner material joined or 0.14", whichever is greater.
Oiltight and watertight connections, including decks Connections in foundations and supporting structures for machinery All connections in way of the steering gear arrangement Connections in way of stabilizers and thrusters All connections in a region above the propeller extending in a radius of 3'-6" from the Centerline girder (CVK) to bar keel Inside painted tanks (fresh water, grey water and black water)
4) Unbracketed stiffeners of shell, watertight and oiltight bulkheads and house fronts are to have double continuous welds for one-tenth of their length at each end.
5) All intermittent welding shall be staggered.
7) Double continuous welding is required in all of the following connections:
1) All welding to be in accordance with ABS "RULES FOR BUILDING AND CLASSING STEEL VESSELS UNDER 90 METERS (295 FEET) IN LENGTH", Latest Edition, Section 16 (Table 1).
2) Where beams, stiffeners, frames, etc. are intermittently welded and pass through slotted girders, shelves or stringers, there is to be a matched pair of 3" intermittent welds on each side of such intersection and the beams, stiffeners and frames are to be efficiently attached to the girders, shelves and stringers.
3) For butt joints where the difference in thickness between plates exceeds 1/8" on either side, the thicker plate shall be tapered with a minimum 3:1 taper.
6) Welding of frame brackets to frames, decks and inner bottom shall be double continuous with a fillet size 75% of the thinner material joined or 0.14", whichever is greater.
