About this file

This is a Selective Demolition specification section (024119) for the Crownpoint Health Care Facility Medical Gas Upgrade project under Indian Health Service Order No. HHSI16103024T.

The specification establishes requirements for demolition and removal of selected building elements, including walls, ceilings, and floors necessary to accommodate new construction. Demolition waste becomes the contractor's property unless otherwise indicated. Key submittals include a protection measures report with drawings showing dust and noise control barriers, a schedule of demolition activities with start and end dates, and pre-demolition photographs or video. The contractor must maintain the facility in operational status during selective demolition, arrange the schedule to avoid disruption to owner operations, and protect existing utilities and fire-protection systems. Utilities must be disconnected and capped before demolition begins, with the owner arranging service shutoff when requested. The contractor is responsible for providing temporary protection and barricades to prevent injury and damage to adjacent structures. Demolition methods must use hand tools or small power tools for cutting rather than hammering or chopping; cutting torches are prohibited until work areas are cleared of flammable materials, and portable fire-suppression devices must be maintained during flame-cutting operations. All demolition must comply with EPA notification regulations, ASSE A10.6, and NFPA 241 standards. Demolition waste must be removed from the site and disposed of at an EPA-approved construction and demolition waste landfill, with materials not allowed to accumulate on-site or be burned. Adjacent structures must be cleaned of dust, dirt, and debris, returning areas to their pre-demolition condition.
