1. CENTRAL HEATING PLANT DESCRIPTION
THE PROPOSED MAINTENANCE AUGMENTATION TEAM (MAT) BUILDING CENTRAL HEATING PLANT
CONSISTS OF 2 CONDENSING TYPE NATURAL GAS FIRED BOILERS, ASSOCIATED BOILER
CIRCULATION PUMPS, AND SYSTEM CIRCULATION PUMPS, ALL SPECIFIED FOR REPLACEMENT AS
PART OF THIS PROJECT. THE CENTRAL HEATING PLANT SUPPORTS TERMINAL HEATING
EQUIPMENT INCLUDING HW COILS IN AIR HANDLING UNITS, FAN COIL UNITS AND UNIT HEATERS.
AHU HV-1 PROVIDES MAKE-UP AIR FOR THE AIR EXHAUSTED BY VARIOUS GENERAL EXHAUST
FANS. THE HW COIL IN HV-1 IS SPECIFIED TO HAVE AN ENTERING AIR TEMPERATURE OF 14
DEGREES F. ACCORDINGLY, THE HYDRONIC HEATING SYSTEM MUST CIRCULATE WATER WITH A
30% PROPYLENE GLYCOL SOLUTION. THE HEATING HOT WATER SUPPLY TEMPERATURE
IS SPECIFIED TO REMAIN AS ORIGINALLY DESIGNED WHEN THE MAT BUILDING WAS
CONSTRUCTED. WITH A NOMINAL ΔT OF 20 DEGREES F, THIS LIMITS CONDENSING TO MILDER
HEATING CONDITIONS. IF, IN THE FUTURE, ALL TERMINAL HEATING EQUIPMENT IS REPLACED, IT IS
RECOMMENDED THAT THE EQUIPMENT BE SELECTED WITH PERFORMANCE (HIGHER ΔT, LOWER
FLOW RATE) TO SUPPORT A WIDER RANGE OF CONDENSING OPERATIONS
Q4. Does the oil boiler have an asbestos rating? If so, could you please provide that?
A4. The MAT building was constructed circa 1996. The Government does not know of asbestos in the boiler or the boiler room. Per the specifications, section 01 57 19 at paragraph 1.7 Unforeseen Hazardous or Regulated Material, if any hazardous material is found, stop work and alert the COR.
