About this file
This document contains questions and clarifications from potential offerors regarding solicitation number 70Z02322R93250001 for the Long Range Interceptor Cutter Boat 3rd Generation (LRI III) requirement. The U.S. Coast Guard is seeking to procure up to 17 CB-LRI III boats. Clarifications were provided that removed continuous duty cycle language from requirements for marine diesel engines and transmission systems, instead describing mission profiles. An extension to the proposal due date was not granted, despite suppliers still awaiting technical and pricing information.

Q&Rs
| Responses | ||||
| # | Reference | Question | Response | |
| 1 | 200-1.6 | |||
| 241-1.2 | 200-1.6 states that the "The marine diesel engine shall be capable of operating continuously at rated power and speed without adverse effects on engine performance and warranty…" |
241-1.2 states that "The marine reverse/reduction gears shall be rated continuous duty at the diesel engines rated power and speed."
Both of these requirements result in engines and transmissions that are bigger and heavier than typical for a vessel of this size, speed, and operational requirements.
There is no viable continuously rated engine and transmission within the weight and horsepower range required.
Based on operating hours alone, a pleasure or light duty rating would meet the requirements. Please advise if either of these are acceptable for this application. Section 051-9 updated to provide clarification on the propulsion system operating profile.
Section 200-1.5 and 1.6 updated to remove the continuous operation language and provide mission profile descriptions.
Section 241-1.2 updated to remove the continuous operation language and provide mission profile descriptions.
| 2 | 241-1.3 | We, and most likely other bidders, are still waiting for technical and pricing information from a suppliers including a particular waterjet supplier. In addition, the Coast Guards response to the question above may affect our approach to satisfy the requirements. | |
| For these reasons, we respectfully request a 2-week extension to resolve these issues. | The proposal due date is not being extended. The clarifications on duty cycle are considered minor. |
