About this file
This document is an Addendum to a Request for Proposal (RFP) from Argonne National Laboratory for a Vacuum Chamber System for BioNanoProbe-II (BNP-II). Key modifications include extending the offer deadline to November 24, 2025 at 3pm CST, correcting documentation errors regarding the Price Proposal Form, and clarifying acceptable proposal formats. The addendum also provides detailed responses to prospective offeror questions, addressing technical specifications such as sheet metal dimensions, technological solutions, project milestones, and baseplate requirements.
The solicitation seeks a contractor to design, manufacture, test, and deliver a vacuum chamber system for the BioNanoProbe-II instrument at the Advanced Photon Source (APS) Sector 2ID beamline. The chamber will accommodate high-resolution x-ray and visible light optics, precision motion stages, metrology equipment, and liquid nitrogen flow lines. The procurement will use a Best Value Procurement Strategy, with offers to be submitted via email to Molly Hunter by November 10, 2025. The opportunity is issued by the Department of Energy Office of Science and allows flexibility in technical approaches while maintaining core project requirements.

11/5/2025 This addendum is being issued to modify the subject REQUEST FOR Proposal (RFP) 6-S176-Q-00043-00 as follows:
1. Offer deadline extended to 3pm CST on November 24, 2025.
2. Enclosure 5 (ANL-70B form) was incomplete. A new Enclosure 5 document has been incorporated with the appropriate Representations and Certifications for completion.
3. RFP mentions on page 6 (Part III –Price Proposal) to use Enclosure No. 3, “Price Proposal Form” in order to submit the price quotation. But the Enclosure No. 3 is “Argonne Statement of Work for “BioNanoProbe-II Vacuum Chamber System” dated October 29, 2025”. There is no Price Proposal Form, this was written in error. A proposal on company letterhead in the company’s preferred format is acceptable as long as it meets the needs of the RFP.
4. ANL does not have an example document of Part I-III. ANL will accept any reasonable format with company letterhead so long as it meets the specific noted requirements within the RFP.
5. Any similar prior work executed with Argonne National Laboratory can be used as prior performance history and similarities to prior projects cannot be disclosed for fair competition.
6. Response to prospective offeror questions as follows:
a. If we find a better technological solution for manufacturing the chamber, can we implement it?
i. Yes. Please include a detailed description of the solution in your bid, including Pros/Cons
b. Is a Gantt chart required with the quotation, or is it sufficient to provide only the delivery time?
i. A GANTT chart is not strictly required, but a table of dates for each project milestone is required.
c. The sheet metal thickness is specified as 12.7 mm and 25.4 mm. These dimensions may be difficult to source in Europe and could be more expensive. Would it be acceptable to use metric equivalents — 15 mm and 26 mm?
i. Yes, metric plate metal is acceptable. Please make note in your bid
d. Do you allow extending the scope of supply to include blind flanges/caps for non-standard (non-CF) ports, or will you provide them to the manufacturer for leak testing?
i. Either path is acceptable. Vendor provided or ANL provided. Please make note in your bid which will be provided and which will not be provided.
e. Is the base plate required to submit a bid? Or is it also acceptable if the chamber is quoted with a temporary base plate (SST seal plate that can be switched out for a Base plate procured elsewhere)
i. Preferred to include baseplate in the bid, but bids with a temporary baseplate will not be automatically rejected. Please make clear in your bid which you plan to include.
