About this file

This file is a Schedule of Special Inspections detailing welding inspection requirements in compliance with 2021 IBC 1705.2.1 and AISC 360-22 standards. The document outlines specific inspection tasks for steel welding, categorizing them into three types: PERFORM (tasks required for each weld/connection), OBSERVE (random daily sampling), and DOCUMENT (formal reporting requirements).

The schedule details 19 specific inspection points, focusing on welding techniques and post-welding inspections. Key requirements include verification of interpass temperature maintenance, proper positioning, filler metal compatibility, and cleaning procedures. Critical inspection criteria for completed welds include size, length, location verification, and visual acceptance criteria covering crack prohibition, weld/base-metal fusion, crater cross sections, weld profiles, undercut, and porosity. The document emphasizes that all welds must conform to construction drawing requirements and prohibits unauthorized welds without engineer of record approval.

END SECTION

1 PERFORM: Perform these tasks for each weld, fastener, or bolted connection, and required verification.

OBSERVE: Observe these items on a random sampling basis daily to ensure that applicable requirements are met. Operations need not be delayed pending these inspections at contractor’s risk.

DOCUMENT: Document in a report that the work has been performed as required. This is in addition to all other required reports.
