About this file

This document is Section 323119 of the specification for the GLS Administration Building and Maintenance Garage project, detailing requirements for security fencing and gates installation.

The specification mandates installation of Ameristar Echelon II security fencing in the Classic style, 6 feet in height with 8-foot post spacing, 3-inch square posts, black color, and 3-rail configuration. Brand-name-or-equal products are acceptable provided they aesthetically match the existing Visitor Center fencing in color, profile, and material finish to maintain campus continuity; any substitutions require contractor submission of detailed shop drawings, product data, and physical samples for Contracting Officer Representative (COR) approval prior to fabrication. Completed panels must support a 300-pound midspan load without permanent deformation and accommodate 25% grade changes. Hardware connections shall use one-way tamperproof security nuts with carriage bolts. The manufacturer provides a 20-year structural warranty covering material finish defects (cracking, peeling, chipping, blistering, corroding) and a 5-year labor reimbursement guarantee for defective component restoration. Installation requirements include post excavation minimum 5 feet 6 inches deep with 12-inch diameter concrete foundations, gate installation per manufacturer specifications with tamper-resistant hardware, and grounding/bonding systems using No. 6 AWG conductors with grounding rods extending 6 inches below grade. Field quality control mandates megger grounding-resistance testing at each location per IEEE 81 standards, with testing occurring at least two full days after precipitation. The contractor must provide shop drawings for gates, product test reports for metallic-coated pickets, and manufacturer's product literature prior to installation, with welding qualifications required per AWS D1.1/D1.1M standards. Post-installation requirements include gate adjustment for smooth operation, hardware lubrication, and owner personnel training for operation and maintenance.
