About this file
This document is a Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) clause 52.232-18 addressing the Availability of Funds for a government contract. The clause specifies that funds are currently not available for the contract, and the government's contractual obligation is contingent upon the future availability of appropriated funds. No legal liability for payment can arise until funds are made available to the Contracting Officer and the contractor receives written confirmation of such availability.
The clause, dated April 1984, provides a critical financial protection mechanism for the government, ensuring that contract payments are only committed when actual funding is secured. It serves as a standard disclaimer that shields the government from potential financial obligations in the event that budgetary allocations are not finalized or funding is not ultimately approved for the specific contract.
