About this file
This is a technical specification appendix for a rotary-screw compressor water chiller early procurement package issued by North Carolina Central University (NCCU) for the Walker Complex HVAC and BAS Renovation project. NCCU is soliciting competitive bids for one (1) factory-assembled, multi-compressor outdoor air-cooled liquid chiller with a minimum of two compressors. The chiller must be delivered to the site no earlier than February 15, 2027 and no later than March 1, 2027, with delivery date identified as a critical consideration. The unit will be contractor-installed as part of the future renovation construction contract. Vendors are permitted to submit multiple delivery options within their bids, and minor deviations from technical specifications may be considered to improve delivery timelines, though major deviations will not be accepted.
The specification document establishes comprehensive technical requirements for the chiller, including AHRI 550/590 compliance, ASHRAE 15 safety code adherence, UL 465 and ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code compliance, and North Carolina State Building Code Energy Conservation Code compliance. The chiller must utilize R-513a refrigerant, feature rotary twin screw compressors operating at no more than 3,600 rpm with maximum single compressor capacity not exceeding 50 tons, include thermal-expansion valves, plate-fin condensers with integral sub-cooling, and a BACnet-compatible controller for building automation system integration. The contractor is required to provide an extended parts and labor warranty on the refrigeration compressor for four years following the initial one-year guarantee period, with both parts and labor portions provided directly from the manufacturer to the owner. Additional requirements include evaporator freeze protection rated to -20 degrees Fahrenheit, comprehensive safety controls with manual restart provisions, and anti-recycle timers for compressor motor restarts.
