About this file
This technical criteria document is part of a request for proposals by the Utah Geological Survey, under the State of Utah Division of Purchasing, for U-Pb crystallization age dating services for igneous rocks designated as contract NC26-3. The procurement seeks a laboratory capable of conducting U-Th-Pb geochronology to determine crystallization ages of intrusive (magmatic) rocks, with the anticipated award going to a single vendor through a five-year contract term that includes a one-year pricing guarantee requirement.
The technical evaluation criteria total 700 points across five categories: data ability experience with U-Pb dating in zircon (100 points), laboratory workflow including mineral separation processes (100 points), comprehensive reporting capabilities covering methodology, calculated ages, instrumentation details, data analysis, and various plots (200 points), operational longevity of the laboratory (100 points), and external non-academic collaboration history from 2021-2024 (200 points). The selected contractor must demonstrate expertise in mineral separation, U-Pb dating procedures, age calculations, and the ability to produce detailed technical reports that include concordia plots, spot data, quality control information, and explanations of analytical complications such as lead loss.

Attachment D: Technical Criteria
NC26-3
U-Pb Crystallization Ages for Igneous Rocks
In your proposal, please describe how you will meet or exceed each technical requirement below.
Technical Criteria
1) Data Ability (100 points) Describe your lab's experience in conducting U-Pb dating in zircon from igneous rocks to calculate crystallization ages for external customers.
2) Data Workflow (100 points) Please describe your lab's workflow as it pertains to U-Pb dating in zircon from igneous rocks to calculate crystallization ages for external customers, including mineral separation.
3) Report of Data (200 points) Describe your lab’s ability to create a report that describes methodology, calculated ages, and additional details about the sample outcomes. Please indicate the ability to include the following topics in a report.
· Details on instrumentation
· Description of methodology for analysis and data reduction
· Final weighted mean age at 2 sigma including MSWD
· Brief (~150 words) description of analysis and results for each sample including:
· Number of spots analyzed
· Number of analyses discarded during data reduction and filtering and justification
· Explanation for less than 50 spots per sample (e.g., low zircon yield)
· Notes on any complications to the age calculation (e.g., Pb loss)
· Data
· Spot data
· Standard and QAQC data
· Plots
· Concordia and/or Tera-Wasserburg plots of the entire zircon population
· Concordia and/or Tera-Wasserburg plots of the zircon population used for age calculation
4) Longevity of lab operation (100 points) Please describe how long your lab has been in operation, conducting mineral separation and U-Pb dating and age calculations.
5) External Collaborators (200 points) How many non-academic collaborators has your lab been working with over the past three years, 2021-2024? Please list the collaborators and what work was completed.
