About this file

This technical specifications document outlines the standard design requirements for Type B Drive Approach construction in Bountiful City, Utah, applicable to the city's 2026 replacement and new construction project for sidewalk, curb and gutter, and storm drain facilities at random locations. The specifications detail concrete driveway construction standards including dimensions ranging from 6 feet to 7 feet in width with associated 4-foot, 8-foot, or 11-foot sidewalk options, with driveways measuring between 12 feet minimum and 30 feet maximum in length. All measurements for drive approach payment include the walk, curb, and gutter components. The document mandates 6-inch thick concrete minimum throughout the driveway to expansion joints, with 6-inch road base minimum under all new concrete, and requires Class 4000 concrete per APWA Section 03304 specifications placed and cured according to APWA Sections 02770 and 03390 respectively.

The specifications require compaction of existing subgrade to 95 percent minimum (Modified Proctor), epoxy-coated rebar with continuous 2 number 4 bars, and a 36-inch saw cut asphalt control joint when driveway width exceeds 14 feet. Additional requirements include straight metal forms for all tangent sections or where curb radius is not less than 150 feet, 1/2-inch expansion joint material at curb and gutter, and a 1 1/2-inch raise at flow line. Where concrete or asphalt removal is necessary, materials must be saw-cut to full depth with straight lines, with minimum 3-foot asphalt removal width in front of drive approaches. Curing shall be accomplished through application of curing compound per current APWA specifications. These standards were revised as of August 2017 and establish the baseline design parameters for Type B drive approach construction when sidewalk is positioned against the curb.
