About this file

This is a technical standard specification document for Type E Drive Approach construction prepared by Bountiful City, Utah, detailing the design and construction requirements for mountable curb-type driveway approaches. The specification outlines the physical dimensions and structural requirements for drive approaches, including a minimum 4-foot-wide concrete walkway, a 1½-inch raise at the flow line, 6-inch road base minimum, and continuous #4 rebar reinforcement. The concrete must be Class 4000 per APWA specifications with a minimum 6-inch thickness throughout the walkway through the driveway. Drive approach lengths must measure between 12 and 30 feet for payment purposes, with a minimum 4½-foot length measured from the curb transition. The specification requires expansion joints when driveway width exceeds 14 feet, contraction joints as required, and a minimum 3-foot-6-inch saw cut of asphalt removal in front of drive approaches with straight lines to full depth.

The specification mandates epoxy-coated rebar, Class 4000 concrete cured per APWA Section 03390 using curing compound application, and compact existing subgrade to 95 percent minimum using modified Proctor testing. All concrete and asphalt removal must be saw cut to full depth with straight lines, and straight metal forms are required for all tangent sections or where curb radius is not less than 150 feet. The specification was revised in August 2017 and applies to the City of Bountiful's 2026 replacement and new construction project for sidewalk, curb and gutter, and storm drain facilities at random locations throughout the city.
