Dear Veteran, The Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital is changing our smoking policy to provide a safe and healthy environment. The policy covers all smoking and tobacco material including but not limited to:
• Cigarettes
• Cigars
• Pipes
• Chewing tobacco
• Vape pens, e-cigarettes, or e-cigars.
Beginning October 1, 2019, smoking and tobacco use will no longer be allowed on the VA campus for patients, visitors, contractors, volunteers, vendors, and employees. Those unable to comply with this change may receive a Federal citation (ticket).
You are encouraged to leave all tobacco products and devices at home. To reduce the risk of fire near oxygen and other gases used at our site, you may be required to store tobacco products and devices if visiting certain areas of the hospital.
Hines VA can help Veterans quit tobacco use. If you would like more information about this service, please contact your Primary Care Team.
