1. The SF1442, Block 10 states that “There will be no bid deducts included in this project. Please fill in the single CLIN on the price schedule.” The specifications and drawings indicate several bid options. Please clarify.
a. The Bid Alternate Deducts in the specifications will not be used for this project and have been replaced with the single CLIN identified on the Price Schedule inclusive of all work.
2. AE501 Detail 2 shows a precast ledge (for support of the precast double tee stems). Some precast manufacturers utilize spot corbels on their spandrels for this purpose. General notes for Structural Precast on SI002 state that the precast supplier is responsible for all design and details of the precast members and their connection. Are these details just representative and can the precast supplier utilize their standard details, as long as the aesthetics and layout of the deck are not impacted?
a. Spot Corbels are acceptable to A/E. VA Concurs with A/E’s recommendations.
3. AE501 Detail 1 thru 5 show the wire metal mesh fall deterrent connection details. These are noted at the inside face of openings. The connections for these will conflict with the prestressing strand in the panels. Strands are located at the top and bottom of panels. The first expansion anchor should be 5” from the top or bottom of spandrel. The details may need to be revised to work with precast details. Please clarify how to handle?
a. Extend vertical support member so first expansion anchor is 5” from the top of the spandrel.
4. SF502 details 6, 7, 8 & 9 calls for steel canopy embeds to be by precast manufacturer. There are no reaction loads provided at these embeds for the precast firm to design them appropriately. Please provide embed design for precast manufacturer to price accordingly?
a. Loading information for canopies is provided on SI003.
5. In the New England area, precast parking structures washes are typically not utilized around the perimeter of the garage. Can New England precast parking structure standards be utilized on this project and eliminate the requirement for these perimeter washes?
a. Parking garage to have washes as shown on plans.
6. The SF Drawings call for field applied cast-in-place concrete washes within the parking structure. In New England it is industry standard to utilize precast washes in a lot of cases. There will still be field applied cast-in-place concrete washes required in some locations around stairs, drains, and skewed corners, but most could be precast. Is it acceptable for precast washes to be utilized on this project where they can be?
a. Use of precast washes are acceptable.
7. The SF Drawings call out precast product sizes (i.e.: 8” thick spandrels and walls). General notes for Structural Precast on SI002 state that the precast supplier is responsible for all design and details of the precast members and their connection. Are these details just representative and can the precast supplier utilize member sizes per their designs, as long as the aesthetics and layout of the deck are not impacted?
a. Changes to precast details and product sizes are acceptable, provided that formal RFIs are issued for the VA and A/E to determine the full impact of said change on the project. Contractor shall be responsible for all additional costs that their proposed changes to the design incur. GC to coordinate all changes required based on design. Updated construction documents will not be provided for bidding but changes will be captured in Record Drawings.
8. The precast spandrel details shown on SF503 for the snow chute location does not work structurally. General notes for Structural Precast on SI002 state that the precast supplier is responsible for all design and details of the precast members and their connection. Are these details just representative and can the precast supplier utilize their standard details per their design calculations, as long as the function ability and layout of the chute are not impacted?
a. A/E and VA finds this acceptable.
9. Specification 03 45 00 is for architectural precast cladding. Exterior structural products will receive an architectural finish but fall under the requirements of Structural precast. Please confirm all products on this parking structure fall under specification 03 41 33 for structural precast?
a. Yes, All Precast will fall under 03 41 33.
10. If specification 03 45 00 is not applicable, will a mockup panel still be required as called for in this specification?
a. Yes, a mockup panel is required.
11. Specification 09 06 00 calls for the precast concrete to have a light gray finish and references PCI 228. PCI 228 calls for white cement with dye. Is it the Architects intent for this to be the precast firm’s standard grey concrete utilizing 100% grey cement? Please clarify.
a. Wall panels visible from the exterior to have PCI 228 Color. Double tees and lite walls panels may be precasters standard concrete mix.
12. Drawing AE301 indicate vertical litewall construction for the interior ramp / shear wall that are 14’ wide with gaps in between. There are a number of concerns with this layout, i.e. the vertical walls create shipping concerns in CT; the gaps between the walls require fall protection during erection; and vertical litewalls themselves are a safety concern during erection to some precast firms. Is it possible to use horizontal litewall design? General notes for Structural Precast on SI002 state that the precast supplier is responsible for all design and details of the precast members and their connection. Are these details just representative and can the precast supplier utilize their standard details per their design calculations, as long as the function ability and layout of the chute are not impacted?
a. Changes to precast product design are acceptable, provided that formal RFIs are issued for the VA and A/E to determine the full impact of said change on the project. Contractor shall be responsible for all additional costs that their proposed changes to the litewall design incur. GC to coordinate all changes required based on horizontal litewall design. Updated construction documents will not be provided for bidding but changes will be captured in Record Drawings.
