About this file
This document is a medical gas and vacuum system inspection report for Seattle VA Medical Center dated April 23, 2024. The inspection covers a Category 1 facility per NFPA-99 2021 edition standards and includes testing of oxygen, medical air, surgical vacuum, nitrous oxide, and nitrogen systems. The facility consists of multiple buildings (100, 101, and CLC) across various floors with extensive medical gas distribution networks.
The inspection tests addressed bulk/manifold location and function, pump/compressor performance, master alarm panels, valve operation, and inlet/outlet specifications. Key findings indicate the medical gas systems tested are in compliance with NFPA-99 2021 edition standards. Quality control utilized calibrated equipment including oxygen analyzers (MaxTec), flow meters (Dwyer X100), pressure gauges (Dwyer DPG-107), purity analyzers (Enmet Matrix+), and scales (Sartorius). The inspection team included one lead inspector with ASSE 6040 credentials (expiring 3/2027) and one apprentice. The scope encompassed 630 oxygen outlets, 474 medical air outlets, 609 vacuum outlets, 16 nitrous oxide outlets, 2 WAGD outlets, and 22 nitrogen outlets tested across all facilities. The report details 60+ observations for upgrades addressing pressure switch locations, vent line configurations, alarm wiring, color coding corrections, zone valve boxes, gauge installations, and outlet repairs, though these are noted as observations rather than compliance violations. Medical gas concentrations met NFPA-99 standards: oxygen ≥99%, nitrous oxide ≥99%, nitrogen ≤1% oxygen, medical air 19.5%-23.5% oxygen.
