Quad Stack Battery Assembly 448 Amp Hours @ 12vdc

Part Number: SBA-4-Q1-12V

1‐ Battery Enclosure (Holds 4 Group 27 Batteries)

2‐ Battery Harness, (Pre‐Installed in Battery Enclosure)

3‐ Batteries (12vdc Group 27 Gel Cell)

4‐ Battery Harness Connection Cables

5‐ Battery (+) Terminal Covers

6‐ MPPT2 (Maximum Power Point Tracking Charge/Load Controller)

Solar Electric Power Company 1521 SE Palm Court, Stuart, FL 34994 US 772‐220‐6615 www.solar‐solarlighting.com

Mounting the Battery Enclosure

The Quad Box

The battery enclosure can be mounted directly behind the solar panel assembly or mounted remotely. It conveniently shares the same bolt pattern as the solar panel mounting bracket, this allows it to be bolted directly behind the solar panel assembly sharing its mounting hardware. The solar panel output can then feed directly through the pole into the battery enclosure.

5 ½”

17”

Bolt holes accept up to

5/8” diameter bolts

Wire feed hole into pole center.

Battery enclosure mounted behind solar panel mounting bracket (DSPB).

Note: Solar panel mounting bracket should always face true south.

Battery enclosure mounted remotely

Note: Threaded end of bolt is located inside the battery enclosure to prevent tampering.

System Wiring

Battery Connection

Connect the red wire of the battery harness connection cable to Battery

Positive (+) through the terminal cover, then connect the white negative (‐) wire of the battery harness connection cable to battery negative (‐).

After connecting the battery harness connection cables to each battery place the batteries into the enclosure with the terminals towards the rear. Carefully connect each battery to the wire harness making sure each 2 pin connector is fully connected (snapped) together. Do not connect the controller at this time.

1‐ Battery connection points, (4) 2 pin male connectors.

2‐ Load circuit: Black (+) White (‐) Green ground. (12VDC Output, 20A max.)

3‐ Solar panel input with disconnect:

Yellow (+) White (‐) Green ground.

(Max. input 275w, 85voc)

4‐ Load fuse (ATO), fuse size depends on load size.

5‐ Main fuse (ATO), 30A recommended.

6‐ Controller connection plug (4 pin).

System Connection Sequence

Start‐up and Testing

1‐ Connect batteries 1‐4 to the battery harness as explained on page 3.

2‐ Connect the Load circuit, BLACK (+), WHITE (‐), GREEN GROUND. Note: If a dimmable LED fixture is being used there will be a small black wire coming from the controller, this connects to the dimmable LED fixtures purple dimmer lead. Observe polarity of load being connected. Wire is routed inside pole center to the load. This connection must be made before the controller is connected to the system.

3‐ Unplug the solar panel disconnect (3 pin connector) and connect it to the solar panel using the provided wire nuts, YELLOW (+), WHITE (‐), GREEN GROUND. Observe polarity of solar panels before making connection. DO

NOT PLUG TOGETHER THE SOLAR PANEL DISCONNECT AT THIS TIME.

4‐ Connect the Charge/Load Controller (MPPT2). Carefully connect the controller to the wire harness 4 pin connector, making sure it’s fully connected (snapped) together.

5‐ Plug together the solar panel disconnect, making sure it is fully connected (snapped) together.

Once the controller is connected the status indicator LEDs will begin to blink. Only a blinking green LED should be present after a few seconds.

This blinking green LED is an indication that the controller detects daytime and should begin charging shortly. When installed in a typical lighting system (ex. dusk to dawn) the load should be off at this time.

To test the load circuit unplug the solar disconnect, once disconnected the blinking green status indicator LED should change to a solid green LED shortly. This solid green LED is an indication that the controller detects nighttime and should turn on the load within 5 minutes. Once the load has been verified reconnect the solar disconnect plug.

After reconnection the solid green LED should change to a blinking green LED and the load should go off within 5 minutes.

LED status indicators are located on the bottom of the controller. Under normal operation only a green LED should be on.

Consult SEPCO technical support if either of the red LEDs are on.
