About this file

This document is an attachment specifying ASTM standards and technical requirements for hospital-grade solid vinyl flooring materials. The flooring must be solid vinyl tile or plank construction with a minimum 20 mil wear layer, preferably featuring ceramic bead or polyurethane coating, and range from 2.5 mm to 5 mm in thickness. The backing must be fiberglass-reinforced or solid vinyl for dimensional stability, with a no-wax, UV-cured polyurethane finish.

Performance specifications require slip resistance of at least 0.6 coefficient of friction per ASTM D2047, indentation resistance not exceeding 0.005 inches per ASTM F1914, and static load limit of at least 250 psi per ASTM F970. The flooring must resist common hospital disinfectants and medical stains including iodine and betadine per ASTM F925 standards. Installation requires low-VOC, manufacturer-approved adhesive on clean, dry, and level subfloors with moisture vapor emission rates of 5 lbs or less or relative humidity of 80% or less. Seams must be heat-welded or chemically bonded for infection control, and integral cove base is required in patient care areas. Materials must be FloorScore® or GREENGUARD Gold certified and comply with VA Sustainable Design Manual and LEED v4 standards where applicable. A minimum 10-year commercial warranty covering wear, stain, fade, and delamination is required.
