About this file

This document is a specification for a fire detection and alarm system replacement project at a Department of Veterans Affairs health care facility. The project involves replacing an air handling unit and associated ductwork, which requires replacing the existing duct smoke detectors and adding new detectors. Only authorized technicians from the existing fire alarm system manufacturer are allowed to work on the system. The specification provides requirements for submittals, equipment, wiring, installation, testing and acceptance. Duct smoke detectors must be compatible with the existing fire alarm control panel and integrate with its existing sequence of operations. Testing is required before and after construction to ensure all devices function as intended both during and after the project. A 30-day burn-in period and final inspection by the manufacturer's representative must be passed before final acceptance.
