Questions and Answers

1. On sheet PL101, General Note 5, it states that, “All work shall be done at night and/or weekends, or as directed by the COR.” It does this throughout the Plumbing drawings, so I believe that I should be bidding this job as overtime only. However, this note does not show up anywhere in the Mechanical drawings that depict work to be taking place in the same areas as the Plumbing scope. Is it the intent that only the Plumbing scope be performed on overtime, or is there some scope that we would be allowed to perform during regular working hours?

A – We prefer for water outages to occur after hours/weekends to limit impact to patient care. However, there will be some instances where the outage may occur during business hours. Work shown on Pharmacy – MD101 shall occur after hours, all other mechanical work could occur during business hours.

1. On sheet MP201, detail 1, there is a note on the right side of the page that says to patch the existing snow melt system after demo is completed. In order to bid this in a way that can be compared, do you want this treated as an allowance or is there a way to define this scope further? If we are to patch the snow melt field, is this limited to just the concrete/paving, or are there to be below grade joints allowed in those snow melt zones piping that may be affected?

A - Any damage or required removal of the existing snow melt system shall be repaired/replaced as needed for full functionality.

1. Specification 221300 defines that Cast Iron pipe should be used for basically all applications (I presume this also includes storm pipe); however, the spec also then includes some options on using Schedule 40 PVC pipe and none of the restrictions appear to limit the use of PVC below grade. Are we allowed to use schedule 40 PVC below grade, or are we to follow section 2.1, A, 1, a. that says cast iron shall be used for pipe in contact with earth?

A – Develop price estimates based on information provided in the specifications.

1. The bid form currently reads that item 1B and item 2 are to be the same value; however, when I read through the Division 1, statement of bid items, I could see there being an interpretation of Bid Item #2 to actually be the combined value of Bid Items 1A and 1B. Which interpretation are we to follow?

A – Bid Item #1B and #2 are identical (the entire base bid of the Pharmacy project). Bid Item #2 is solely the base bid of the Pharmacy project [the Renovate Main Lobby drawings and specifications are not included].
