REQUEST FOR INFORMATION RESPONSES:
The following questions and answers provide clarification to the contract documents. All answers resulting in changes to contract specifications and drawings are reflected above.
1. There are existing HVAC ducts that rise up from the crawl space into the church pews in the chapel. The drawings do not indicate if fire dampers are currently installed in the ductwork. Please advise if fire dampers are existing and if not, are fire dampers required? Provide a detail of the work required in the church pews if fire dampers need to be installed.
Response: Existing ducts that rise up from the pipe basement to the Chapel and Matousek do not have fire dampers and fire dampers do not need to be installed.
2. There are existing HVAC ducts that rise from the crawl space into the Matousek Auditorium. The drawings do not indicate if fire dampers are currently installed in the ductwork. Please advise if fire dampers are existing and if not please advise if fire dampers are required?
Response: Existing ducts that rise up from the pipe basement to the Chapel and Matousek do not have fire dampers and fire dampers do not need to be installed.
3. On plan sheet MP-108B, please clarify the tie-in location of the steam piping, condensate piping and hot water piping. Further, are shut valves required at the tie-in locations for steam, condensate, chilled water and hot water heating system? Are any ends of the main steam traps required? If so, please provide the location?
Response: Contractor to provide manual shut-off valve near pipe connections. Steam piping to be trapped at all low point per VA specification.
4. On plan sheet MP-101A, please clarify that the design intent is to have the steam condensate rise up from AHU V-10, V-11 and V-30 to a horizontal condensate main at the crawl space ceiling. Are there any concerns the condensate riser from each AHU will be flooded and possibly cause water hammer?
Response: Air Handling unit condensate piping to be sloped to condensate pump. Condensate pump to be located in the same room as the air handling unit.
5. Specification section 23 22 12, page 20, paragraph “H” calls for non-destructive examination of steam piping and condensate piping welds. Please confirm this is a requirement of the project.
Response: Yes, 23 22 13, page 20, paragraph H is a requirement of the project.
6. We understand the cleaning requirements specified in section 23 31 00, page 13, paragraph “K” when new ductwork is connected to existing. Please confirm that machine cleaning of new ductwork is not required of ductwork is properly protection during the course of construction. Should machine ductwork cleaning be added to the project scope please provide the detailed NADC standards that would apply to this project.
Response: Amend specification to include: REVISED 3.1.K to: "When new ducts are connected to existing ductwork, machine agitator and vacuum combination shall be used on interior of ductwork from duct tie-in point up to the nearest ductwork turn or transition in all directions. Contractor shall sanitize interior and exterior of both existing and new ductwork within three feet of tie-in point by wiping down with rubbing alcohol. Ductwork cleanliness shall be verified using the most recent NADCA vacuum test procedures, and test documentation shall be submitted to the COR. Contractor shall temporarily place filters on diffusers downstream of tie-in point when unit is started for the first time after duct tie-in."
7. Specification section 23 05 10 “Common Work Results for Boiler Plant and Steam Generation” was issued for the project, however there is no work shown for the boiler plant or for steam generation. Are we correct to follow specification 23 05 11 “Common Work Results for HVAC”?
