RE: RFI’s for Replace Building 71, VA PROJECT NO. 590-604

Mr. Norman, Please address the following RFI’s for the above referenced project.

1. Please reference the Lighting Fixture Schedule on Drawing E-701, the EL Series Drawings and the

Architectural Reflected Ceiling Plans. The Light Fixture Schedule identifies a Type “G” Light

Fixture as an LED Cove Light. The Architectural Reflected Ceiling Plans depict a Symbol for a Cove

Light Fixture however, we cannot locate these fixtures on the Electrical or the Architectural

Drawings. Can you please help us to locate these fixtures, so we can price accordingly?

AE Response: Fixture type ‘G’ was replaced by fixture type ’F1’. There is no fixture type ‘G’ in the project.

2. Please reference the Legend of Drawing E-001, Detail #3 “Emergency Lighting Fixture Switching

Control Schematics” of Drawing E-501 and the EL Series Drawings. Detail #3 depicts an

Emergency Relay / Automatic Transfer Relay & Enclosure. This Emergency Relay / Automatic

Transfer Relay & Enclosure is not identified or depicted on the Symbols Legend or on the EL

Series Drawings. Can you please quantify and / or depict these Emergency Relay / Automatic

Transfer Relay & Enclosures?

AE Response: provide relay unit (similar to wattstopper ELCU) to be used at the switches for the open area workstation lighting on 1st and 2nd floors (approx. 8 switches), switch legs ‘a’ and ‘b’. Attached relays to the switch box or provide junction box above ceiling for easier access. Emergency light fixtures in these areas show both the normal and emergency circuit numbers on the plans, however, only the emergency circuit numbers are to be used for the emergency fixtures.

3. Specification section 08800, Part 2.1, D, calls for the glass to meet large missile hurricane impact standards per the referenced ASTM E 1996. However, the glass make up listed in part 2.4 and

3.7 do not indicate glass make ups to meet large missile hurricane impact. Also, specification sections 084113, 084413 and 085113 do not call for large missile hurricane impact storefronts, curtain walls and windows. Are large missile hurricane impact standards required? If so, the specified frames systems will also have to change to meet this requirement.

AE Response: Glazing, aluminum windows, curtain wall, and aluminum storefront shall comply large missile hurricane impact standards.

PER VA specifications:

A. “Windborne-Debris-Impact Resistance: Comply with enhanced-protection testing requirements in ASTM E1996 for project wind zone when tested according to ASTM E1886, based upon testing of specimens not less than the size required for project and utilizing installation method identical to that specified for project.

B. Project Wind Zone: Wind Zone 2.

C. Large-Missile Test: For glazing located within 9.1 m (30 feet) of grade.

D. Small-Missile Test: For glazing located more than 9.1 m (30 feet) above grade.”

4. 2) The finish for all aluminum frames for specification sections 084113, 084413 and 085113 is called out as class one black anodized per the finish schedule, section 090600. Section 084113, 1.8, B calls for a 20 year finish warranty. The same warranty duration is indicated in 084413, 1.9, C. A 20 year warranty is not available for an anodized finish. The maximum warranty for the specified finish is 5 years. Is this acceptable?

AE Response: 5 year warranty is acceptable.

5. Specification section 142400 Electric Hydraulic Elevator; Will a holeless elevator be acceptable?

AE Response: Contractor shall provide elevator as designed. Any deviation can be submitted after award for approval at the VA's discretion.

6. Drawing AE722, Curtain Wall Schedule, CT-02 width reads 8’2”, Detail 7 & 9 show 6’-2”. Please clarify.

AE Response: Revise width as scheduled from 8’-2” to 6’-2”

7. Drawing AF211, Room Finish Schedule, Room 206 – House Keeping. Please clarify the wainscot.

Is it only on the perimeter of the mop sink?

AE Response: Wainscot is only on the perimeter of the mop sink.

8. Will the wheel Chair repair shop behind the building remain opening in that location? Will we have to maintain handicap access to its location?

AE Response: Yes, the repair shop will remain open and accessibility shall remain.

9. Will any permits be required (Building, stormwater,….) be required from the City of Hampton?

AE Response: permit does not need to be pulled for this project (<1 acre of disturbance). The plans were already reviewed and approved by the DEQ for Erosion and Sediment Control compliance (refer to the attached letter). The contractor's only obligation is to meet the intent of the E&S plan and general requirements during construction.
