REQUEST FOR INFORMATION
Subject: Prebid RFI’s No. 001
PROJECT: Replace Building 71 DATE: 01/31/2019
TO: Department of Veterans Affairs Contract #:
Hampton VA Medical Center
Hampton, VA 23667
REQUEST:
1. Referring to Specification 01 35 26, Paragraph 1.7.C and Specification 01 45 00, Paragraph 1.4.B:
The Site Safety and Health Officer must be a separate supervisor and the Superintendent and Quality
Control Manager can be the same supervisor. Please confirm we have interpreted correctly.
2. Referring to Specification 230923, Paragraph 1.1.E.1 indicates the campus using Tridium for DDC. A few
DDC contractors who have worked at the campus have stated that the systems used are Johnson Controls and Alerton. Please advise if this new building is to tie into Johnson Controls or Alerton, or if there is actually Tridium.
3. Specification 010000, paragraph 1.9.D indicates the contractor to apply and obtain the NPDES Permit from
DEQ. Please advise (1) if the contract drawings are already approved by DEQ or if (2) the contractor is to submit the drawings to DEQ. If condition (2), please confirm that any changes required by DEQ will be handled later as a MOD.
4. Referencing Specification 280500, paragraph 1.6.F.1.i.8) and 9) , the electronic security contractor has asked if the contract is requiring us to include the furniture in this room.
5. Sheet AF211 Finish schedule, please advise the finishes for Rooms 160 Toilet and 161 IT Room which are in Bulding 173.
6. Referencing Drawing ES102, keynote #3, we are to run all new fiber inside a 3" conduit above ceiling space through the corridor area into AG-10. Based on site discovery, we feel the above ceiling conditions would not allow this route. Please advise if we can run the route through the crawlspace with the proper type and rating of fiber.
7. There is a communication symbol for paging speakers (both ceilng and wall) shown; however, there are no symbol icons shown on either drawing ET-111 or ET121. Are there any speakers for this project?
8. Are we instructed to remove all exisiting communications equipment, racks, etc from existing IT rooms after cables have been removed back to MH#9?
9. Reference Sheet ET 111, notes 4 and 5, on previous projects, the VA has directed us to sole source the Wi-
Fi system to Red River Computer Company https://www.redriver.com/ because they have the service maintenance contract for the National and Guest Wi-Fi for the VA. Please advise if we are to use Red River for this project’s Wi-Fi.

3. AE Response to comment #3: a permit does not need to be pulled for this project (<1 acre of disturbance).
The plans were already reviewed and approved by the DEQ for Erosion and Sediment Control compliance (refer to the attached letter). The contractor's only obligation is to meet the intent of the E&S plan and general requirements during construction.
5. AE Response to comment #5:
Room 160 - Toilet:
Floor - CT-F2 Base - CTB-1 Walls - CT-W1 Ceiling - GWB P-1
Room 161 - IT Room: Same finishes as rooms 103 and 233A
