SCOPE OF WORK:
Project 528A8-18-806 D-Stream Upgrade Site Preparation
Bldg. 1 VAMC, 113 Holland Ave., Albany, NY
I. PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Stratton VA Medical Center (VAMC) in Albany, NY is upgrading its existing 1.5T MRI machine. Philips
Healthcare is contracted with the Stratton VA Medical Center to furnish and install a D-Stream upgrade to the existing MRI. This upgrade will essentially replace all the MRI system’s components excluding the magnet. This contract will cover the site preparation work that will prepare the [MRI Computer (A209), MRI Scan (A210), MRI
Control (A212), Supply Room (A213) and other] areas for Philips’ installation.
This Scope of Work shall only be bid on by design/build contractors who are competent in Philips MRI construction site preparation design and have completed 4 MRI projects in the last 5 years within the VAMC system. Within the
Contractor’s bid, the Contractor shall provide their portfolio detailing the Philips MRI systems they have installed meeting these criteria. To maximize the design’s accuracy, the design/build contractor shall perform a full depth, on-site investigation to fully verify existing conditions. The Contractor shall use Philips’ Final Site Preparation
Support Document as their primary basis for design/construction. The Contractor shall extensively review Philips’ document and the rest of this Scope of Work for accuracy and make any appropriate corrections to provide the result, a properly functioning, upgraded Philips MRI. The Contractor shall comply with all applicable (VA) design manuals and codes for design and construction. The VA has included the most relative VA Design Manuals
(Electrical, HVAC, Lighting & Plumbing) for reference.
The Period of Performance for Design shall NOT exceed 90 calendar days. To ensure the VA is provided a suitable design, the Contractor/Designer shall conduct an on-site Concept Review with the VA. Afterwards, the
Contractor/Designer shall submit a 60% and (upon approval a) 95% design for the VA to review. If corrections to the work listed below or Philip’s documents are required, the Contractor shall contact the VA COR and Philips to verify and approve the correction(s). Once the 95% design is complete and approved, the Contractor shall coordinate with the VA and Philips to prepare for demolition/construction.
Throughout the Contractor’s work, the magnet shall be ramped down. Philips states the magnet will not produce a magnetic field but will continue to require cooling. The existing chiller (located in mechanical areaway adjacent to
A-wing) and cryocooler chiller/cryocompressor (located in Computer Room) shall remain active throughout most of the site preparation (further details provided below). Philips will occasionally be on site to monitor progress and conduct simpler installations (further details provided below). The MRI upgrade site preparation work must be complete and approved by Philips prior to Philips’ delivery of the remaining upgrade/installation. Please note the construction timeframe is very time-sensitive because this is the station’s only MRI and it will not be substituting its services with a mobile unit during construction. Due to the time-sensitive matter, construction shall NOT exceed the Period of Performance of 90 calendar days. It is critical for the Contractor to stay on track with the agreed upon construction schedule/performance dates and Period of Performances.
Specific work requirements include, but are not limited to the following:
