About this file
This document is an amendment to a Request for Information (RFI) for a federal contract opportunity related to the Expansion Joint Corrections project at the VA Medical Center in Brockton, MA. The key details are:
The VA is seeking to install the same type of hardware and fire-rated doors (e.g. closers, crash bars, handles) as currently in place, though the original manufacturer information is unavailable. The doors have magnetic hold-opens connected to the fire alarm, and the VA confirms that only the magnet will be mounted on the door, with other electrified components on the wall. The door leaf color is to be bronze, but the hardware finish should be satin aluminum. No specific door manufacturer is required, but 14-gauge steel doors similar to Steelcraft are preferred. The closers will need to be standard models that release the doors when the fire alarm is activated. Respondents should price out the required satin aluminum hardware to match the existing finishes.

Amendment 2 RFIs
1. I know it has been confirmed that no additional specifications will be provided, but is there anyway to get a manufacturers list of the hardware items currently on the doors? If not, can it be assumed that any hardware manufacturer will su ice for these doors?
VA’s intent is to install the same type of hardware/fire rated door (closers, crash bars, handles, etc.) not a direct replacement of exactly what is there. These doors are old and VA would be unable to provide original manufacturer information.
Refer to the pictures of the doors provided in solicitation attachment S02 Work Narrative - 523A5-24-010 - Expansion Joint Corrections and the pictures below for Work Areas 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, and 7 for the hardware required.

2. It is mentioned that these doors have magnetic hold opens connected to the fire alarm – will any of this hardware need to be electrified? There are multiple variations of exit devices and options for these exit devices that will drastically a ect pricing.
All electrified components connected to the fire alarm are mounted on the wall (except at Building 8). There is an existing magnetic lock that releases when the fire alarm is triggered.
A magnet is the only item mounted on the door. For building 8, the closer is connected to the fire alarm directly and releases the door when the fire alarm activates.
3. RFI answer #5 from Amendment 1 mentions that color of the doors is to match the newly installed cross corridor doors (bronze), however hardware finishes have not been specified.
Are we pricing out all bronze hardware to match the door, or are we pricing out the satin aluminum finish hardware to match existing? This will also be a drastic price di erence (and lead time di erence) depending on the specific finish required. Please confirm specific BHMA finish type.
The door leafs are to be bronze. Satin aluminum hardware shall be installed.
4. Is there a specific door manufacturer required? Kawneer, Tubelite, etc.
There is no specific door manufacturer required. The VA has recently used Steelcraft Doors in multiple locations. Doors are to be 14-gauge steel.
5. The closers that need to be replaced will need to be specified. There are multiple di erent types (delayed action arm, standard hold-open closers, etc.)
Most closers are standard closers (again with the exception of Building 8). The doors will close when the fire alarm is activated, and the magnet releases the door.
