About this file

This document contains responses to contractor questions regarding a federal construction contract opportunity to upgrade operating room utilities at the West Haven VA Medical Center in Connecticut.

The scope of work involves upgrading approximately 6,000 square feet of existing operating room space, including pre-op and post-surgery areas, to current VA standards. Upgrades are required for architectural, mechanical, electrical, medical gas, nurse call, and data/communications systems, including accommodations for a future hybrid operating room. Contractors must phase work to limit the surgical suite shutdown to 60 days or less. Responses clarify contractor duties regarding quality control management, superintendent roles, materials testing, firestopping qualifications, parking and laydown areas, inspection requirements, and other project details. The contracting agency will provide a laydown area and supports 24-hour work with advance coordination.
