About this file

This document is a Request for Information (RFI) for the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute (SCBI) Renew Veterinary Hospital project, containing 180 sequential requests for clarification from potential contractors. The RFIs cover a wide range of technical, architectural, and contractual details, including specifications for electrical systems, mechanical equipment, structural elements, painting requirements, site work phasing, asbestos removal, fire extinguisher locations, and various material and finish selections.

Key project details include a total performance period of 730 calendar days, with bids due on May 28, 2025, and a pre-proposal meeting scheduled for April 17, 2025. The project involves renovating a veterinary hospital at the Smithsonian's Conservation Biology Institute in Front Royal, VA, with a total project value over $1.5 million. Notable requirements include compliance with federal regulations, use of specific equipment manufacturers like Siemens for controls, and adherence to Smithsonian design standards. The project will require careful phasing, maintenance of existing facility operations, and coordination with Smithsonian staff during construction.

163 Sheet A-601-SH and Spec

Per Detail 1A on Sheet A601SH, the drawings call for a 2 ply SBS system and a 1.5” Substrate board. This contradicts the specifications calling for a 5/8” gyp substrate board.

The languge of the roof assembly detail has been revised to coordinate with the spec. See pending Addendum 3. 5/27/2025

164 Sheet A-607 and Spec

The Wall Base schedule per Sheet A607 calls for Quartz flooring but the specifications for Resinous Flooring mentioned vinyl flake flooring. Please advise which is correct.

The correct product is called out in drawing. The manufacturer has since changed the product we had originally specified as RES-1. As a result we will be updating the finish schedule and the spec to reflect the new name in pending addendum 3. The product type remains the same; a resinous epoxy flooring with an aggregate. The broadcasted aggregate will be updated from "vinyl flake" to "Manufacturer's colored quartz".
