RE: Analysis of Existing Roof Beams for New Screen Wall Loading

Comments/Items Discussed:

At your request, the following limited structural investigation was performed for the Weber County

Library Pleasant Valley Branch building located at the above referenced site. This investigation was limited to the upper roof framing between grids C to E and grids 3 to 10 to determine if the new screen walls can be added to the existing roof without requiring additional upgrades to the existing framing.

The proposed reactions of the screen wall were provided in a preliminary report from RoofScreen Manufacturing Inc dated 3/23/26. No other part or portion of the structural system was investigated. The screen wall connection to the existing roof was not investigated or designed by ARW Engineers. The following assumptions were made in determining the existing structure capacity.

- All roof framing beams were assumed to be non-composite.

- Screen wall posts are spaced at each roof beam (5’-6” worst case).

- The worst-case reactions used in analysis are provided in the table below.

Node Label X (lb) Y (lb)

R1 -597.41 -3403.16

R2 -1623.92 3403.16

Based on our analysis, the new screen walls are permitted to be located according to the highlighted sketch below. The screen wall posts and connections should be located on top of the roof beams. The roof framing members must be located and field verified before placing the new screen walls. The reactions for the screen wall are based on preliminary loads provided by Roof Screen Manufacturing Inc and the final loads will need to be reviewed prior to installation. It should be understood that this investigation was not exhaustive and did not include any investigation of other roof beams other than the roof beams supporting the new screen wall. As additional information becomes available, the conclusions and recommendations contained in this memo may need to be re-evaluated and amended.
