About this file
This document is a Quality Assurance Procedure for Inspection, Testing, and Certification of Seafood, Frozen Fish Products, and Tuna, issued by the State of California Department of General Services (DGS). The procedure outlines comprehensive requirements for suppliers delivering frozen seafood products, including detailed inspection, certification, and shipping protocols. Suppliers must arrange inspection through the U.S. Department of Commerce (USDC) Seafood Inspection Branch, provide notification at least 24 hours before delivery, and obtain an official inspection certificate that must accompany each shipment.
The document specifies strict quality control measures, including requirements that frozen seafood products must be processed within six months of delivery, inspection certificates must be issued within 90 days before delivery, and products must be transported in mechanically or cryogenically refrigerated trucks maintaining a temperature of 0 degrees Fahrenheit. All inspection costs are to be paid by the supplier, with potential cost-sharing or full supplier responsibility for re-inspections depending on whether the product passes or fails. The procedure provides contact information for the Los Angeles Lot Seafood Inspection Office for additional inquiries, and includes specific guidelines about lot numbering, packaging, and certification standards to ensure product quality and compliance with state contract specifications.
