About this file
This document is a revised inspection report of asbestos-containing building materials (ACBM) and lead-based paint in Building #882 at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls, Montana, prepared by Maxim Technologies, Inc. for CTA Architects Engineers on April 18, 1997.
The asbestos inspection, conducted January 13-14, 1997, identified four homogeneous areas of ACBM: mastic under 12"x12" tan floor tile (5% chrysotile), mastic under 12"x12" brown floor tile (15% chrysotile), cement asbestos board/transite walls (70% chrysotile), and built-up roofing materials (3% chrysotile). The report categorizes these materials under AHERA and NESHAP regulations and recommends that identified ACMs be removed by qualified abatement contractors prior to renovation activities. Detailed asbestos abatement specifications should be prepared by an accredited asbestos abatement designer. The lead-based paint inspection, conducted January 13-14, 1997, identified one homogeneous area containing lead-based paint on exterior concrete traffic bollards with lead concentration exceeding 1.0 mg/cm². The report recommends that workers performing paint removal or surface preparation on the traffic bollards receive OSHA lead-in-construction standard training, wear appropriate personal protective equipment including respirators and disposable coveralls, and properly dispose of paint chips and dust using HEPA-equipped vacuums with TCLP testing to determine appropriate disposal methods. The building is a single-story concrete masonry unit structure approximately 16,512 square feet, with interior carpet over vinyl tile floors, sheetrock, and CMU or cement asbestos board walls.
