About this file

This is a Project Manual for the 2026 Water Main Rehabilitation project in Newton, Massachusetts, prepared by the City of Newton's Water and Sewer Commission. The project encompasses the construction of approximately 8,830 linear feet of 8-inch diameter ductile iron water main and approximately 610 linear feet of 6-inch diameter ductile iron water main, along with associated valves, fittings, hydrants, water services, and temporary bypass piping. The work is distributed across eleven streets within Newton: Champa Street, Fellsmere Road, Dolphin Road, Mandalay Road, Woodcliff Road, Aspen Avenue, Studio Road, Minot Place, Cheney Street, Cheney Court, and Southwick Road. The manual provides detailed specifications, technical requirements, and construction standards that govern the execution of this water infrastructure rehabilitation project.

The project manual establishes the engineering and construction specifications required for competitive bidding on this municipal water main rehabilitation contract. The document serves as the authoritative reference for bidders to develop accurate proposals and for the contractor to execute work in compliance with local, state, and industry standards. Bidders must review all provisions including site conditions, material specifications, testing requirements, and performance standards outlined in the manual to ensure comprehensive understanding of project scope and deliverables.
